Dee Brown signed by the Wizards

"Also yesterday, the Wizards signed Utah Jazz restricted free agent point guard Dee Brown to an offer sheet for a two-year, partially guaranteed deal. Utah has one week to match the offer"
Wizards fan here. Any insight on Dee?

He is small, fast and a bad shooter.

Can he defend/pass at all? That's all we're really looking for from the 3rd pg spot.

Re: Dee Brown signed by the Wizards
I disagree a little bit with Delaney and GP here... Dee hasn't had the chances I thought he deserved. For some reason Jazz ownership decides that he would probably be sort of a bad influence for D-Will...
The guy is quick, can handle the ball, and given minutes to oil his game he certainly can be a decent backup. Besides... he's a hard competitor that hates to lose, very Deron Williams mentally alike...
I'm happy for him.

He started shooting better at the end of the 06-07 season. He's a good player, an absolute stud in the lockerroom, and a pure competitor.
Definitely a fan favorite, I am really happy he made it back into the league, he belongs here for sure.

If all you want out of him is a competent 3rd string PG, you'll be more than happy with him. He showed great progress toward the end of the 06-07 season. He's not a lock-down defender, but he's not a liability man-on-man and he's good at playing the passing lanes.

Re: Dee Brown signed by the Wizards
Do answer your question. He plays smart basketball, is a pesky defender, plays as hard as he can every time he takes the floor, but simply isn't as good at basketball as the person he's usually guarding.
He is more of a true PG then he gets credit for, he's a solid passer, but not a great play maker.
His speed is his best tool, and he uses it to get into the lane. However from there he's very small, and not a great athlete to get in and finish at the hoop.

I love Dee Brown, a am happy for him, I wish him the best. He can out run everyone and he always plays with heart, I wish he still played for the Jazz he was showing a lot of improvement last year.

Good for Dee. Glad to see him back in the league. He was making some improvments, but I think Price has the same strengths as Dee, only magnified and not as many weaknesses. He'll be a great 3rd string PG.

It's too bad the jazz let him go. I think he would be a better back up than either hart or price. I'm happy for him. His work ethic should help him to remain in the league.

He'll be a great 3rd guard, his defense seemed fairly sound. As others have mentioned he is a great guy; basketball wise, I think he could develop to be a viable solution for the wizards as the 2nd guard in the future.

Re: Dee Brown signed by the Wizards
Wiz fan here and you have to remember that Gil is coming off of 3 straight knee problems and AD is getting older so the real question is can Dee be a 2nd string PG and maybe even a starter on some nights? Maybe he's not a starter but do you think he could be solid out there if he's playing along side AJ & Caron?
Im actually banking on Gil being healthy or our season doesnt mean anything anyway so really I dont care alot about Dee starting but AD has been 50/50 and if he struggles then I definatly wouldnt mind seeing Dee as the backup. Can he play there? The thing I love the most about him is his speed to go along with guys like Blatche, NY, and maybe even McGuire & McGee on the 2nd unit. All those guys are big time fast break players and thrive in that type of game so the question is can Brown pass well when he's flying or is his speed mostly just used for himself to score. We have many scorers so we need a PG who can get the other guys the ball in a uptempo game. Can he do that?
Also, Im still not sure on what happened last year. Did he not play because he was the 11-15 man on the bench and you had other PG"s or did he just sit out the season and wasnt on your roster?

Dee can definitely distribute in an up-tempo game. He could definitely develop into a legitimate back-up.
As for last season, he wasn't on our roster. He played in Europe.

Re: Dee Brown signed by the Wizards
My understanding of his status last year was he was extended a qualifying offer by the Jazz but didn't sign it. He instead opted to play in Europe for more money and the Jazz had signed Ronnie Price and Jason Hart by that point too--so he would have been competing with those two guys for the backup spot. His belief was the Jazz didn't think he could do the job and needed to move on. Because they extended the QO, he is still a restricted free agent and the Jazz can match. Although I'd be surprised if the Jazz did match with their roster the way it is now.
