How much is Boozer worth?

So, since we're all discussing if Boozer will leave or not and if the Jazz will pay him or not, I was wondering how much you guys think Boozer should and how much do you think he will get paid next year if he keeps playing the way he has the last couple of years.

He will get more Money than Brand, Baron Davis and Jaminson and rightly so as he is younger at a position of PF where there is a shortage of good ones especially good ones with a post up game.

If I were te Jazz I would not pay him and trade him now as he is not a complete player. One of the worst defenders in the league. Jaminson got his money and he plays defense as bad as Boozer does so Boozer wll get his as well.

I mentioned this briefly in another post, but someone will give boozer a max contract, I just don't know if it would be the jazz. Especially with brand off the market for next year, boozer will be the only legit pf and like Holytoledo mentioned there is a shortage of great big men, so expect some teams to offer max deals. Honestly, if the jazz have no intention of offering a max deal, they might as well try and trade him, because someone else will and then the jazz would be left with nothing.

He'll probably get a max deal, and he's probably worth 3/4 of that.

I don't see the Jazz giving Booze a max deal.

That's too much money for someone who has that huge of problem on one side of the floor.

5 year deal I see another team offering him...

09-10: $16.00
10-11: $17.25
11-12: $18.50
12-13: $19.75
13-14: $21.00

Total 5 years $92.5 million

Sadly, in the NBA that is a steal, so many players are over paid for what they actually produce.

The other thing to remember: only the Jazz can give Carlos a sixth year on the deal. That is a bigger bargaining chip than you might think. I have maintained that Carlos' value is roughly in the 17m per year range. So I see a 6yr/105 deal being around the max we should offer. Follow this link:
http://hoopshype.com/salaries.htm

You will notice that only 9 players are set to get 20 million or more this season. Of the 9, at least 5 are somewhere between badly and grossly overpaid. That's over half. Additionally, of the top 28 overall highest paid players in the league, at least 15 of them are slightly overpaid (including valuable players like Shawn Marion, Lamar Odom and AK) while I count 11 of them that are exceedingly overpaid.

Conclusion? Any time a team hands out a big time contract, there is at least a 40% chance that they are overpaying the player they are awarding. Is it worth it? That depends on the situation, but mostly the answer will be no. If I'm the Jazz, I refuse to go over 105 on a 6 yr deal, and I would angle for something in the 95-100m range. However, the sad state of the NBA is that there is almost always someone out there willing to overpay for a difference maker.....So I think there's a great chance that Booz gets a deal in the 19 or 20m per range. :(

I don't think Boozer's a max player, but he's worth more than what we're paying him right now, probably somewhere around 15-16 million per year.

Boozer IS a Max player, he's one of the most dominant PFs in the game, you don't let players like him go, EVER.

Everything he's lacking, IS FIXABLE. If KOC and Larry H. don't plan on giving him the max then they need to trade him.

Boozer is not one of the most dominant Pf's in the game.

You cannot be one of the most dominant when you only play half a game.

There's an old song by Rodger Whitaker that goes something like this.........

They say when you choose a lover, you begin to lose a friend,
That the end of the beginning, is the beginning of the end.
They say the moment that you're born, is when you start to die,
And the first time that we said hello, began our last goodby.

At signing, when the Jazz gave Boozer the Player Option, it was no mystery that this day would eventually come. It's coming but it's not here yet and you can bet the farm the FO has more than one contingency plan. Odds are, they're way ahead of all the speculation on this board.

If you were a plumber and you were looking for work, in general you'd settle for the place where you got the best deal. In this day and age that would most often mean the most money but not necessarily so. Other things like health ins, retirement etc would play a big part in your decision.

Carlos is no different than most of us. He'll shop his skillset in the marketplace, take all the options into consideration, and make the decision that best suits the interests of he and his family. The Jazz gave him that right. I wager it'll be the Jazz that retain him, as I well think they should.

I'm saddened by repeated comments on this board that attack our players not only professionally but worse, in a personal sense. One need only review some of the drivel posted here and it becomes clear who is devoid of character.

How many players in the league do you know who can do it all??.....

Anybody or all together............Give us a short list of the players at his position who would be an upgrade over Carlos.......No Garnetts or Duncans mind you. They aren't available! I'm talking about someone who's getable..............................Then don't wait for all of the rest of us to approve..............GO GET HIM!!.........If you can't make that happen, how about bagging on someone else for a change. In answer to the question.........he's worth whatever the market will bear! You'll know what that is next year when he opts out. Like DWill said, "it's a no brainer."

No, it isn't. Because if we're keeping Boozer, unless Larry Miller goes Dolan or Cuban, we're most likely giving up either AK or Memo. We also have to re-sign Brewer and Millsap. If re-signing Boozer had no other implications, it would be a no brainer, sure, but it has some big ones.
Good thing is we still have a whole year to see how things work out. And you can bet Boozer will play his ass off this year.
If Boozer walks out next year, we'll still have a pretty solid team. That's not bad. And since the Jazz are the only team that can offer Boozer a 6th year on his deal, there's always the possibility of a sign-and-trade. He'll be one of the best players available and there will be a lot of teams interested in him.

I took the quote to mean Boozer opting out was the "no brainer." Players with the option utilize it to help establish value in the marketplace.

Guess I misunderstood you. I thought you were saying it was a no brainer paying Boozer. I'm all for keeping Boozer as long as the price is not too high. I agree with erudite that 105 million for 6 years should be the maximum the Jazz should offer, but it might not be enough to keep him.

How much he is worth depends on what the rest of our roster looks like. I amnot sure I would the luxury tax to keep him on this team.

What the rest of the roster looks like has nothing to do with establishing Boozer's worth. What the Jazz PAY to retain the rest of the roster will surely dictate whether there's an ample amount left over to handle Boozer or not. Performance, team needs, age, health and a host of other considerations, all work to establish a player's worth. And timing can be the critical factor. It'll take some work and creative thinking but if the Jazz FO should make the right moves, it's possible there will be room under the cap for signing Boozer.

Player options in the last year of a contract are negotiated by players to test the market so to speak. If everyone is so all fired up about the possibility of Carlos opting out, you better start getting paranoid about Deron doing the same in 4 years The Jazz just gave him that right.

And I'm wondering why there doesn't seem to be any concern over Okur? He's got an Early Termination Option after next season and anything is possible there!

Look. This is quite simple. If the Jazz ever plan on winning a championship, much less keeping Deron around when his player option comes up, they need to lock up Carlos Boozer here and now. Is Carlos worth the max available? Yes. He will get plenty of offers for the max and I guarantee he will sign one of those offer sheets. The only bargaining chip the Jazz have is the fact that they can sign him for a longer term deal than other teams, and the fact that they already have an established game for him here. If he really doesn't care about the money, but wants to play elsewhere, we can't stop that. Seriously, the Jazz need to open up the salary a little bit and start paying at and above the salary cap. It's the only way they will remain competitive.

Paul Milsap is ready to take Boozer's spot? No. He's a good, young player, but Milsap is far from being a starting four in this league. He may eventually develop into it, but that time is not now. Also, why is it everyone talking about Boozer fails to mention that Memo and Korver both hold player options for next year? Korver will most likely stay with his deal, but Memo is likely to opt out as well. He'll get serious contract offers and the Jazz have to worry about that one as well.

No one's ignoring Memo. In fact, the board's been debating whether they'd keep him or Boozer, if forced to choose. Without a shred of objective thinking to speak of in my decision, I'd keep Memo. He'll be cheaper, and we have a half-decent option to replace Boozer in Millsap, whereas Fesenko and Koufos -- though I'm high on both -- are still question marks.

Of course, Deron-related concerns could still force us to choose Boozer...

The real issue is money. When we signed Deron to a max contract, and we signed AK to a max contract how can we possibly afford a third max contract player? That would leave 25 % of the money for about 80% of the team. We would be stuck with min contract players and three max guys who cannot win a title alone. This is what I meant by depends on who is on the team. I don't see how we can keep all three with the salaries they woud have and still be a contender for the title. I realize we can go over the cap to sign our guys, but in this market how much can we really afford. Keep in mind we still have Harp ($5M), Kyle ($5M), and Memo ($10M) which effectively eats up the rest of the below cap money. This doesn't count any increases for Milsap or Brewer or any draft choices.
