Jeff Hornacek clone playing in the summer league

Post#1 » by rebelx » Wed Jul 16, 2008 7:43 pm

I always thought that Hornacek was a unique player, that the league, because of its style may never see a player like Jeff again. Then a player caught my eye last year in the D-League....and my first impression of him was he was Hornacek part 2. I brushed it off as maybe the guy was having a good game....but then his name kept popping up as player of the game, player of the week, etc.. and etc.. I noticed that he held the the NCAA FT shooting % record for nearly 3 years, and over the time had a 92% FT success rate. The guy was, and is, a Jeff Hornacek clone.

The funny thing is, he's now going into his 2nd year out of college, and he's only had a brief stint at the end of last year with the Miami Heat, who still hold his rights until the end of July. The Heat may not sign him, and if they don't, I don't care WHO the Jazz would have to cut, they'd be dumb not to pursue this kid. He's everything the Jazz look for in a player and more...Sloan would love this kid.

Here's his rookie stats in the DLeague last year (incredible, even for the Dleague, as a rookie):

Here's what he did the last 12 games he played for the Miami Heat (didn't get consistent minutes, but still produced):

If he played in Iowa for college instead of Missouri, I would have to say somebody's playing a sick joke. Jeff Hornacek's soul in a 21 year old's body.

His shooting numbers looks great, until he gets into the NBA where he falls apart. Happens all the time. He obviously struggles to create shots for himself against the best defender in the world.

Blake Ahearn, you are no Jeff Hornacek.

I saw Jeff make a no look basket once. On purpose.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."
