What is going on with the Jazz front office? Are we going to get rid of Jarron Collins or what? Release him please!

Agree! I wish they would trade him or release him. But since Fes and Kosta don't seem to be ready to take over the back up C spot, I don't think the Jazz will do anything with him and just let his contract run out.

If I had a choice I would trade Almond and Collins to Philly for either Speights or Smith. Philly wants a shooter to open the floor for Brand. My preference would be Speights as he seems as the better prospect of the two, but since he did well in the Summer league they might not go for it and Smith may be the more reasonable alternative.

We won't trade Collins unless we get another veteran backup center. Fes and Kosta obviously have a long way to go, and, for all of his deficiencies, Collins knows Sloan's system, plays pretty decent defense and doesn't make dumb mistakes. Boozer and Millsap will probably get most of the minutes backing up Okur, just like in the second half of last season and in the playoffs, but my guess is that, for better or worse, Collins will get time before Fes or Kosta. Those guys probably won't even be on the active roster.

Why release a guy on a guaranteed contract when there is enough roster space for everybody?

DelaneyRudd has got a good point. No use releasing a guy unless you need the space. For instance what if we had just released Hart? I doubt Collins gets traded just because he has been here so long. I hope he does just because it'd be nice to get a big D man down low and for that to happen we have to get rid of somebody and Collins is the most expendable.

No reason not to just like Collins expire and take the minor cap relief. If we need a roster space open mid-season, it'll still be easy to waive him then.

I seriously don't get what's up with the all the hate towards Collins. Why would you want to release him? Who are you going to bring in that is that important that you have to pay out $2 million for a guy to leave. It is not going to happen. If we need release him, who is going to play the backup position? He is a great locker room guy and a leader in the locker room. The guy isn't an allstar but he also makes next to nothing.

Collins is a great 12-14 guy on the bench. He's smart, he knows the system, when he plays he plays hard. He does nothing but help the locker room, and when he plays the Jazz aren't worse.

McCants for Jarron Collins and reducing the protection on the pick UTA already owes MIN.

FOR UTA: McCants could be a starter for the Jazz. He was 15 PPG last year coming off the bench, and he was only starting to get his explosiveness back after microfracture surgery. Sloan would have to improve his defense, but he'd admire his work ethic. McCants is also a good three point shooter, and supposedly convinced McHale to draft him by making 69-of-75 three pointers in a pre-draft work-out. If he doesn't work out, McCants is still an expiring, since UTA could simply refuse to make him a qualifying offer. The pick is already gone, reducing the protections is gambling against the Jazz collapsing, which is something I don't see happening.

FOR MIN: They like McCants, but there is some value in clearing his salary. They have several options at SG right now, with Mike Miller and Rodney Carney added to Corey Brewer. They'd get some value on the chance that the UTA pick becomes something, and they'd get some national attention re-uniting the Collins twins.

Incidentally, MIN might want to include vet min Calvin Booth when he becomes eligible to be combined with a player in trade in late August. He doesn't have much left, but he could be a 5-10 mpg bench center and he's only $1 mil expiring.

Are you serious? We're already overloaded with average wing guys, and short on bigs(even though Collins does suck) and you want to just add to both of those problems? This deal makes no sense at all.

I couldn't disagree more. The Jazz are worse when Collins is on the floor. He may be the least athletic player in the league, and he may play hard but he still plays bad. No offensive game to speak of, below average rebounder, doesn't block shots, and he can occasionally draw a charge. Heck I could do that for a 100th of the price. Every minute Collins is on the floor is another minute guys like Koufos, Fes and Millsap have to spend on the pine. Its an opportunity cost thing. Collins and Harpring have been Jerry's crutch players for the past several seasons. Its time to take away those crutches and make him walk correctly.

You're underestimating Collins I think.

He doesn't commit bad fouls, he doesn't turn the ball over, and he doesn't get abused by other players in the game.

He plays like 8 minutes a game tops, I can honestly say I don't think he's ever cost the Jazz a game in that much time.

They're going to fine flopping...he is either going to be useless, or be playing for free.

For the first time in recent memory, the Wolves have too many players at PF/C. They resigned Gomes and Craig Smith, drafted Kevin Love, already have Al Jefferson and Madsen, and got Jason Collins and Brian Cardinal in trade. We have a QO out for to Chris Richard too, but he hasn't said yes. We could certainly expand the deal to replace a mediocre big man.

I would think McCants would start over your Brewer, or my homestate Korver, and I suppose I believed half your posters here, that wanted to just release Collins.

I certainly think he's superior to Collins. It sounds like MIN fans wouldn't be up for the swap either, so seems like a moot point.

If we get rid of Collins with no C coming back our pf/c would be:

C Okur/Koufus or Fes
PF Boozer/Milsap/Ak

That C line up isn't a championship caliber line up and leaves us terrible thin if any one of Okur, Boozer, Milsap, or even Ak goes down for an extended period.

I probably hate Collins more than anyone here, but even with my hatred I can see that he is a better option than either Fes or Koufos right now.

He is a better flopper than most, so I'm thinking he won't get the diving call too often,
