They said that the hawks are looking to sign and trade Smith! They have two deals one with a eastern power(i think its the Pistons) and one with a western power.Do you think we are making a run for him.Or do you think this is another Lakers looking to get rid of Odom?

Yes he has an ego,but he is a tough cover and is a physical defender! He can block shots too!

Who would we trade fo him? Kirilenko? They wouldnt want him, nor would I want Smith at Kirilenko money. Who else, Boozer? To me that would be the most logical for the Jazz. While we would surely be downgrading offensively, we would be upgrading defensively, and keeping that contract in Boozers current money range. But does it make sense for the Hawks? Probably not, unless they want the salary relief after next year. I think Boozer at his current deal is great, Boozer at what he will be looking for, not so much. Would you guys take the hit and get SOMETHING for Boozer, thinking he could very well leave for nothing next summer?

For all you Harpring hatters, here is your chance to send Matty back to his home town! For the record I'm not one of those people.

Boozer's the only person they'd take for him, and as boze noted, it would have to be in the interest of cap space, because there's no way in hell Boozer would hang around there. Josh and AK on the floor at the same time? That's certainly interesting, but I'm not sure it'd work. That's an athletic and defensive-minded frontline we'd have, but also pretty weak physically.

When was the last time the Jazz made a blockbuster trade?

Jeff Malone for Jeff Hornacek? (hardly a blockbuster, but, that's the most risky trade I can remember them making)

I doubt it's us. It's probably a team that is prone to trades and turnover.

Harpring hatters..funny. Maybe you could start a new brand of hats? Anyway for the record, I AM a Harpring hater, and would love to get rid of him for a used jock strap, never mind a talented player. He has no trade value, due to his contract and due to he sucks. That was a bad move in signing him to such a long deal, and we're stuck with him.

Harpring definitely has trade value, but it's narrow in its scope. It would have to be a high-level contender. No young team or almost-contender would be interested.

The deal that netted Donyell Marshall was pretty big in terms of the number of teams and players involved.. although I dunno that I'd call that a blockbuster on our end either.

Harpring wouldnt touch the floor for a high-level contender. His value is purely as a filler to get a much bigger deal done, thats it.

Anyone else besides me wondering if KOC's little smile, when asked if there was anything else on the table when they matched CJ, night have anything to do with this rumor?

It almost has to be the Jazz or the Lakers.

It could be the Jazz. Though I think the Jazz would only be willing to give up AK, and even then the Jazz wouldn't give Smith AK money. Nor the length he would be looking for.

YOur saying a team like the spurs or celtics wouldn't love to have harpring? I have always seen harp as a celtic for some reason. While I think its the lakers who are interested it wouldnt surprise me if utah was the one. maybe something involving ak or boozer and if its ak then probably the new york pick and almond. With us taking on possibly speedys contract or something along those lines. who knows really. more likely the lakers trying to dump odom.

Does anybody know what kind of contract Josh is looking for, does he want a max? If so, this may make it difficult next year to resign Boozer and Okur!

As far as teams, I hope the Jazz are one of them. Jazzy's idea of AK, New York pick and Almond sounds like a good deal.

His value is to add depth. Contending teams would have interest in him. Whether you want to accept that or not doesn't change the fact that it's true.

I think Altlanta is under the cap so it doesn't matter how close the salaries are in the trade. Josh can be signed to any amount and it would work for AK; other players or draft picks.

A) There is no way we are trading the NY pick right now, unless we get equal value for a top 5 pick (which won't happen). Its value is too ambiguous two years out to determine what we should get for it, and--if we trade it as a throw in in a deal like this--we could end up with serious buyer's remorse issues.

B) AK and a bad contract in return is plenty of value for Josh Smith. You might could argue that we throw in a young prospect as well, but that would be quibbling. If Atlanta were to take AK off our hands, it would ONLY happen if they believed he could and would return to his previous form. Since AK circa 03-05 was a better player than Smith is now, then Atlanta would actually be getting the better player in return. The jazz would take a bad contract to match the salaries (like Speedy) and mitigate the Hawks' risk, and possibly throw in a young player to sweeten the pot.

C) Smith would be a horrible fit here. The guy makes a ton of bad decisions, is incredibly immature and hard to coach, and is the type of person that would likely hate it in Utah. Not to mention he isn't disciplined enough to thrive in Jerry's structured system. In fact, Jerry would likely end him.

So, no, I don't think that its us, nor would I want it to be. Smith is an awesome player in a lot of ways, but the Jazz are the last team in the league he should be playing for.

Yeah, people seriously overrate Josh Smith. Great stats, awesome highlights, not the team player you think he is.

Seems like the Hawks were better when he wasn't playing.
