Jeff Foster, is there any interest??

Post#1 » by joew8302 » Tue Jul 29, 2008 12:33 am

Pacer fan here. I heard last year you guys were interested in Foster. I understand the interest in that he is a great volume rebounder, and he hustles his butt off. I have no doubt you would love him.

What we would really like is a power forward, that is our biggest weakness now. Almond's name has been brought up before, but I really don't think we are as interested as we may have been considering the arrival of Brandon Rush. Two young two guards like that doesn't make a ton of sense.

I also think we would be a lot more flexible about what we would take back in return if you guys took on either Daniels/Tinsley/Williams, but I am not sure how you feel about that. Also, we have a pg rotation of Ford/Jack/Diener and two other centers in Rasho/Hibbert, so I don't believe someone in either of those spots would really do much for the Pacers.

Anyways, are you guys still interested in Jeff? What would you propose to make it work?

I am sure that the Jazz would have interest in him. They just don't have a lot that they are willing to part with to get him.

The only big guys that we have that there is a possiblity of the Jazz trading for Foster are Collins and maybe Fes or Koufus. I would imagine that Almond would be the most likely.

It would be Collins that would be the main cog in the trade.

Ok, this may be a little outside the box, but would you consider Foster and Tinsley for a future 2nd rounder? Don't burn me over the coals if this wouldn't work, I don't know what your cap looks like or anything.

That would only work if the Jazz were about 13 million under the cap. Plus, the Jazz are looking for capspace. Bringing in Tinsley would be a really bad as he has 3 years and 21 million left in his contract. I was wondering if you guys were interested in Harpring, but I guess you don't wanna take the additional salary either.

We are over for that. I had more interest in Foster last year. I am preferring to let Kosta and Fes battle to see who becomes the better backup.

Matt Harpring is one of my favorite players in the league, I love how that guy plays. But we were last in the league in attendance last season and have all our cap space spoken for. All of this and Harprings age remove any interest we may have in him.

Kirilenko for Foster & Daniels & First Round Draft Picks for the next 20 years :D

Daniels is off the books after this season and I believe Foster also? Unfortunately, this would only enhance the log jam at the 2 guard spot and just isn't quite enough in return for Kiri despite the cap relief.

I might send Andrei to the Pacers for Foster and Daniels. Both have expiring contracts (if the team doesn't exercise the last year of Daniels' contract), and we could use the salary cap room. With our glut at the wing, I'd be inclined to buyout Daniels, but I like Foster and - especially if we got rid of Collins - wouldn't mind resigning him after this year. In fact, if you buy Wages of Wins' Wins Produced stat, Foster was one of the top 10 most productive centers last year ( http://www.wagesofwins.com/15C0708.html ).

if im sending ak to the pacers, i want granger for exchange. throw in foster and we'll throw in collins and almond. a draft pick or two would be nice to receive for ak as well.

I'd want a couple of draft picks - I like Foster but have no desire for Daniels other than his expiring contract.

I don't see anyway to make this work for both sides at the moment. I would like to have Foster, but giving near equal value in return is almost impossible.

Obviously he is of essentially no use to the Pacers, as they are now firmly in a rebuilding faze. They need a PF, and I'm sure they would LOVE Millsap, but there's no way the Jazz would part with him for a crusty old guy like Foster.

The best I could come up with here is Millsap+Collins and Almond for Foster and a future (top 5 protected) 1st rounder. I think that would work with the salaries, though I'm not sure.

Millsap is going to be an above average starter in this league when he gets a shot, so him and a nice young wing prospect in return for a guy that the Pacers can't use and a nice pick would be roughly equal value. The Pacers would only lose out on this deal if they ended up shipping us a top 6-8 pick--which isn't likely--and if neither Almond or Paul busted out.

The Jazz, on the other hand, could use Foster as the swing backup for both Boozer and Memo, and would actually be able to use him as a real 5 man.

Still, that all is extremely detailed and so unlikely its not even hardly worth talking about. But its the best I could come up with.

Suffice it to say: "thanks, but no thanks"

Collins and Almond is about as far as we'd be willing to go. Rush can be your starter, and Almond will be your spark off the bench.

Hahaha no way in heck are you even touching Granger without giving us Williams, and lets be honest, that isn't happening. Even mentioning something like that is looney. I am not sure how AK would fit in the Pacers plans anways with Granger and Dunleavy.

If Collins and Almond is as far as you go I don't think much could be done, that is unles you would take back Williams, Tinsley or Daniels.

Which we aren't really willing to take back.

Granger is closer to Ak than he is to Williams.

Granger is a good player, but he's not in the same hemisphere as Williams.

Well put.

I'll go even farther. AK is a better player than Granger, the only thing clouding that issue is AK's salary, as well as his role on the team. Hell, AK's PER was better than Granger's this past season. Its not like Andrei isn't still playing well. He's just not doing as much.

Jeff Foster and Marquis Daniels (expiring) both have positive trade value, whereas I'd argue that AK-47 has negative trade value, or at the most very limited positive trade value. He's a very nice role player. The problem is, he's making superstar money, an average of about 16.5-million over the next 3 years. Wow.

With that said, it's not my money, we're not looking to have any capspace within the next two seasons anyways, and he'd likely improve our team, so I'd definitely consider it.

As for Deron Williams, he's what it would take to land Granger. I understand Williams has more trade value than Granger. No one said it was a deal the Jazz would do, just that Deron is what it would take (I'd consider Boozer as well). We're fine with T.J. Ford, who's shown he can put up similar production to Deron if given the minutes. 12 & 6 in 23 minutes last year works out to 19 & 10 in the same 37 minutes that Williams plays.
