Met Fesenko today

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Sat Aug 2, 2008 4:15 am

Today I went to a basketball camp in Rock Springs and met Krylo Fesenko.

What he said....

The NBA isn't about money, or fans.....it's about donuts.
There are three rules for rookies.....Hot, Fresh, and Krispy Cream.
Never ask questions, if Matt Harpring asks you to bring a newspaper to his room at 6 AM, then bring it, don't ask, what about the one outside your door?
When he first came into the nba Andrei Kirilenko told him that Carlos was the nicest guy on the team, and he was right...
Olive Garden Rocks.
He is going to college over the internet, his major is English!!!!
His best friend is Andrei, they both speak Russian. Andrei showed him around town, and all the best places to eat (does this include Denny's?)
He doesn't have a drivers license or a car, but he does have a driver.

After he said all of that we had a couple of competitions (I won all of them of course lol), then since I won I got to play Horse with him. I almost beat him, I was so close.....I even got him frustrated in the end of the game, then he did a trick shot to beat me (bounced it off the ground and into the hoop, I should have made it).

What I learned about his game...

He has a decent mid-range shot, and range out to three point land. He likes bank shots, but he isn't very good at using the board from 10-12 feet out.

His free throws are bad because he doesn't center his right foot with the rim which makes all of his shots either wide right, or wide left.

He needs work on his left hand and dribbling.

He has a huge body but doesn't know how to utilize it, at seven foot, two ninety he should dominate on the inside, but he doesn't.

I also learned that he has a great passion for the game, and a huge amount of respect for Jerry, he says Sloan is the best coach he has ever had, and he has improved his game immensely.

Carlos Boozer is teaching him how to play offense in the post, which sounds good to me. He says they play 1 on 1 a lot, and Carlos abuses him.

Interesting post. It both reinforces some of the stereotypes about his personality, and gives insight as to some good traits that he has.

Hopefully his passion starts to translate into understanding and consistency. Ideally he will turn into the defensive stopper that we need. His size and apparent athleticism, if paired with sound technique and fundamentals, could make him an effective center. Luckily he is still young because it looks like it might take another couple years.

Was this Jr. Jazz? I can't imagine any other reason for a Ukrainian to be in Wyoming.
