The Jazz should hire this guy immediately

Bill Laimbeer. This guy is a basketball genius both as a player and as a coach. The guy wins championships everywhere he goes. The Jazz should hire him as an assistant coach and groom him to be the future head coach. He has a connection to the Jazz as he coaches Malone's daughter. As a player he was known as a hard-nosed guy who focused on defense, similar to Jerry Sloan. Unlike Sloan Laimbeer would bring championship experience which would be invaluable to a young Jazz team seeking its niche.

Last time I checked he was dominating the WNBA. Why would he want to leave?

I've heard he wants to coach in the NBA but has been blackballed because of his reputation as a player.

Then why Utah? I am sure there are a quite a few places that would be able to offer him a better job sooner.

I like his toughness, but I am not sure Utah is where he wants to be.

Sloan played and coached in Chicago and had no connection to Utah before he joined the Jazz. Laimbeer coaches the daughter of Karl Malone so he has some connection with the Jazz. Laimbeer tried unsuccessfully to join the coaching staffs of the Knicks and Pistons. The Jazz have a winning tradition and Laimbeer and Sloan have similar competitive streaks. I think it would be a good match.

^^^Thats a huge reach.

We already have an heir to the thron in Phil Johnson
We are already grooming a coach in Ty Corbin
We already have a player that we might wanna bring on and groom as a coach in Hornacek.

Like Bat said, why utah?

Also a tough gritty coach has worked so well here for 20+ yrs...whats that zero championships, that cant be right.

It is a bit of a stretch on the connection but I don't think that we really need a connection to bring here. He most likely wouldn't want to go from head coach to playing 3rd or 4th fiddle here in Utah. It would be nice to bring here and have him teach Boozer what it is like to have a set of balls.

Johnson is older than Sloan, so he is near retirement as well. Unlike Sloan, Corbin, Hornacek or anybody else the Jazz have on their coaching staff Laimbeer has championship rings as a player and a coach something the Jazz need from the leadership position.

I would totally be alright with letting Bill Laimbeer take a shot at the Jazz. First, Phil Johnson will never be the head coach here, I feel when Sloan leaves he will as well. Corbin is a possibility though, but why not Bill? He has proven he can coach, even if it's WNBA, it's still coaching. Players will respect his toughness and he's a no BS type of personality which the players on the Jazz team are already accustomed to. Why not?

Stockton>Horny>Laimbeer>Corbin>Ivaroni=Every other scrub ex Jazz connected player you guys want to hire.

Not a bad suggestion in my mind. Laimbeer was a great player and I think he's paid his dues. I'd be happy to have him here assuming Stockton and Horny don't want teh position.

Does Stockton want to be a coach? What makes you think that he would be so great?

But again you're all forgetting what a family organization this is. KOC is one of the few new people within this organization in awhile. Everyone else has Jazz roots. Im not saying Laimbeer wouldnt be a good fit, just not a likely one.

I've never seen anyone with a better understanding of the game. There are few folks more competative. He doesn't say stupid things when there is a mic infront of him. He'd have the respect of the players and officials. He'd be a draw to games just by himself. He'd never back down if a player challenged him.

He's a class act.

Many of the top players have had a hard time making the transition to coach. It seems that they are too demandind of have too high of expectations not understanding why the players can't be as good as they were.

I'm sure Stockton would be a lot like Sloan. For better or worse.
