May God be with Deron.

Two weeks is normally a safe bet to heal from an ankle sprain. Hopefully it can heal well and not cause further issue. Good news.

Good news.
Obviously quicker would have been better but it sure as hell beats a month. Looks like he should only miss a couple of games and knowing Deron he should be just fine when he gets back.
Thank jesus.

Well our first three games are against the Nuggets and the Clippers twice.
As far as I understand, Melo will be serving a suspension for the opener and apparently Baron Davis and maybe Camby? will be out for the Clipper games. (The Clippers will be starting Jason Hart

)
I think we'll be fine, might as well Deron rest it up and make sure he's 100 % for the season.

Yeah, really couldn't have come at a better time for the Jazz. It evens the field with the Nuggets a bit more, but I will take a team with Boozer, Okur, Brewer and Kirilenko over a team with AI, K-Mart, Nene and ...
Well I couldn't really tell you who else is worth a damn on the Nuggets. I guess Balkman is a pretty decent player.
Having Korver hot for the first few games of the season would make those games a lot easier.

Yeah. I can't see the Jazz losing to the Meloless Nuggets and the Baronless Clippers at home. Just let Deron rest. If the team is doing well without him, they should let him rest until the eastern coast trip.
He could use some rest after playing all year long.

I'm stoked on two weeks personally. It won't be bad for him to get a little rest and it couldn't come at a better time. Considering he weighs 200+ lbs and came down on his ankle while it was nearly upside down two weeks is great. I was thinking more like a month or longer so 2 weeks is a life saver.

I'm glad you all are so optomistic.
But, the article says a minimum of 2 weeks, meaning it may be longer.
I just hope it isn't a lingering problem that bothers him all season.

I think the important word in the statement is "2 weeks minimum". Not to be pessimistic, but DW could be out quite a bit longer than 2 weeks, especially, if the jazz are going to be cautious (which they will be). My best uneducated guess is he is out for a month.

Considering Deron Williams is a fierce competitor in the same mold of Stockton and Malone, I doubt he misses much more time then 2 weeks if any more then that. If the doctor says at least two weeks, Deron Williams isn't going to take off longer time then that.

From the
Tribune Blog:Tribune Blog wrote:Judging from what Kyle Korver said at practice, Williams was hoping he could be ready for opening night, which is only nine days away. Based on conversations, it seems as if several people are under the impression that Williams will miss few, if any, games.
Who knows with Deron. He's a figher.

Doctors always come down on the side of conservatism in giving their prognosese. Deron will not miss any more than the first 3 games, if that. This is the exact type of injury that John and Karl used to play through routinely. These aren't even really "injuries", they just the bumps and bruises of playing in the NBA. I guarantee, if Karl or John suffered this exact injury, they would be out on the court even if there was another game the next night. Deron is the same type of person, the same type of player, the same type of competitor.
Bill Parcells, the coach of my Cowboys from 03-06, has a saying: "During football season, football players play football." You get the drift?
He will play.

Honestly, as horrible as I felt when I first heard that Deron was injured, as long as he doesn't miss too many games and is able to get back to 100% in fairly short order, this could help our team. AK is going to be handling the ball A LOT with Deron out, especially when he's playing with the second unit. He could put up huge numbers and gain a lot of confidence in the first few games of the season. He'll have confidence once Deron comes back and he'll still have plenty of opportunities to handle the ball and make plays on the second team. When AK's involved, he's not only a more confident, more dynamic offensive player, but also a more energetic defender, and we all remember how dominant he can be in that role.
If AK's ever had a chance to get back to playing at anywhere near an all-star level, this is it, and, if he does, it will be a tremendous boost to our title hopes (and my fantasy team).

Exactly my thoughts. AK's been playing well and he always seems to step up when somebody gets injured. The guys is really active, just like the AK of old, like many people alerady pointed out. I don't have the stats, but as far as I remember AK is averaging over 2 blocks in about 25 minutes of play so far in the preseason.

Deron told reporters today that when he first went down he thought that he was done for the season. Yikes.

Any update???? Concerned Fantasy Basketball manager (and all around Deron fan) here.... I was able to get him in the 2nd round, so I was wondering if anyone had any update on his condition.

Rumors are he might play in the opener and hasn't been ruled out. However I think the Jazz will still hold him out a few days just to be safe.
