Knicks second round pick for Almond
You guys didnt pick up his option so he will likely be gone with no compensation. If we gave you a 2nd rounder--would you deal him to us? You save his 800K left on his contract this year for a guy you barely use and clearly dont want long term. I think the player could be pretty good on the Knicks in our up and down system.

We didn't, but then again he didn't show us anything before. He's showing us SOMETHING now, if he continues to look better I think we might resign him, besides with all the injuries, we definitely can use him around here.

I still say we got to fold on him. We already have CJ and Brewer and Korver. Bye bye Mo-Nuts.

What exactly did you see in him, Ming? The only thing I see is Sloan saying he's earning minutes by working hard.
Every time he's on the floor, he looks lost and scared, takes bad shots, doesn't play great defense and can't catch a pass even if his life depends on it. I'd take that 2nd rounder just to get him off the floor.
Maybe the Knicks young run and gun can get something out of him. I don't think he'll ever fit in here with the Jazz. I might be hating a little bit, but we already have a **** of wing players. I wouldn't mind trading the one who's playing the worse out of all of them.

I'd take that knicks 2nd for him.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

Re: Knicks second round pick for Almond
He's worth way more in a package deal then a second round draft pick on a team full of players with 2 more overseas waiting to come over.
Hold on to him, if he's worth a second round draft pick now he will be worth a second round draft pick come draft night.

How is it clear that we don't want him
That is a terrible trade.

Re: Knicks second round pick for Almond
The Knicks 2nd round pick will probably be around the 40th pick, seriously, what good will it do us? It's good to be 3 deep at every position, since you're allowed 15players, and loosing Almond would basically require us to replace him. Look at our roster:
Okur/Koufos/Collins/Fesenko
Boozer/Millsap
Miles/Kirilenko/Harpring
Brewer/Korver/Almond
Williams/Price/Knight
Some of our centers can play PF, and both Boozer and Millsap play some center.
Also Almond has been getting some PT, since Nov 15, he's played more than 10 minutes in 6 out of 9 games, these are his states for those 6 games:
15.3mpg 6.2ppg 1.8rpg .2apg .2spg .2bpg .67tov 2.33PF
PER36: 14.5ppg 4.3rpg .4apg .4spg .4bpg 1.57tov 5.5PF
It's not amazing, but for a 2nd yr rookie who played just 9 NBA games last year, and just a combined 39 minutes in those 9 games, you can't really ask for too much, especially when he's just the 3rd option. He'll get better as the year goes on and he continues to earn more PT.

We can't trade him on draft night. We either have to trade him before the deadline, or (much less likely) S&T him next July.
Anyway, Knicks can't do it because they have neither capspace nor a trade exception nor a roster spot at this point. They would have to send somebody back.
I don't see Almond having much value to another team at this point. The Grizzlies DO have a roster spot and capspace...if they sent us a 2nd rounder or two in exchange for him I'd be okay with that.

2 second round picks would be pretty pointless since we'll have a total of 4 second round picks between 2009 and 2010, do you think we'd actually sign 4 second round picks in 2yrs?
Who would you drop:
Okur/Koufos/Fesenko or Collins
Boozer/Millsap
Miles/Kirilenko/Harpring
Brewer/Korver
Williams/Price/Knight
+ 2009 and 2010 first round picks
This would be assuming we let either Fesenko or Collins go after this season, and we resign Harpring and Knight to small contracts. Boozer is probably the biggest question mark of all since he's basically making 11.6 and 12.6 the next two years, and he could ask for the max which would be about 7million a year more, and lets not forget that Okur could opt out and ask for more, Millsap obviously will ask for atleast 7-8 million.

You are right, I forgot we lost his rights after the season. Meh, he'll be gone by the deadline.

No, but I don't think we'd keep Almond in that time either. 2nd round picks can always be packaged, or traded for later picks...they have some long-view value. At the very least, we can keep picking up foreign players and letting them stay overseas where they don't count on our cap, like we did with Tomic. Then we can bring them over when we know what our roster will look like in future years.
It ain't much, but it's something. I doubt we'll do a whole lot better for a 3/4-season (or less) rental on a guy who hasn't proved much in the NBA.

Re: Knicks second round pick for Almond
Almond had 12pts 6rbs 1ast 1stl 2blks. I was actually more impressive by his assertiveness on defense than offense. 2round picks.. you can keep them. Lets just get rid of Harpring and Collins so we can give this guy more PT.
In games where he gets double digit minutes: 14.9mpg 7ppg 2rpg 0.3apg .43bpg .29spg
PER36: 17ppg 5.9rpg .7apg 1bpg .7spg
Not bad.. definitely not going to trade him for a 2nd round pick.

Why would we trade a 1st round pick for an undrafted 3rd string PG.
