Just curious what Utah fans would think about this trade:

A.Kirilenko, Morris Almond to Cleveland

for

Wally Szczerbiak, Sasha Pavlovoc, 2009 1st round pick

Wally expires after this year, Sasha has another year, but it isn't Guaranteed. Sasha is an excellent 3pt shooter, and can drive to the hole. He is also an excellent defender (just not big-enough for the Cavs...he's only 6'7). This will free-up money needed for re-signing Korver, Boozer, Milsap. Added first-round pick will add to talent pool for Jazz...who usually do well with lower picks.

The Cavaliers need an extra defender off the bench (Kirilenko), and Almond is someone they can try to develop.

I would do it in heartbeat. It would give us financial flexibility to re-sign Boozer and Millsap.
We do not need Pavlovic, he was thrown away, Almond will prove he is a fit with the Jazz.

If Almond isnt part of the deal with Sasha, going to you guys, then it'd be:

A.Kirilenko for Wally + 2nd round pick (from Bulls..so it'll be a higher 2nd rounder)

Big hell no.

Sasha would average about 10mpg at best behind Brewer and Korver.
Wally is another Korver, who can only shoot and is basically worthless beyond that.

Since Miles is so much better than these guys it would basically boost up Miles another 10mpg, these guys combined would get like 16mpg.

I prefer Almond to these guys.

The best thing of the package is basically the pick.

I understand that Wally comes off the books this year ($13M) and Sasha would in 2010 ($5M), but we always have a hard time getting a big name to sign.

When the Jazz lost Kirilenko recently they were a freaking mess. I rather wait 2 more years to unload Kirilenko's $17.8M in 2011 and resign him for about half that amount.

Not a chance.

So let me get this straight. You want us to get rid of one of the best defensive players in the league for one of the worst??? We don't need anymore offense right now, no thanks...

I would be really upset. I do not want Wally and Clevelands 1st round pick is going to be mid to late 20's.

AK is earning 75% of his contract now. No dice. He is too important now to throw away.

If I were the Jazz management, I would only do a trade this season if it is a considerable upgrade to the team. I would only consider a trade due to the salary cap problems during the summer. This team is close to being a contender, we might as well play out the year and see what the Jazz can accomplish, before you make those tough decisions about the salary cap.

So to all future people who come on this board and suggest a trade where they rob us of a quality player and give us back expirings. We need to let them know that it would be stuipd to do this before this summer and come back in the summer.

And how you "title contenders" want to re-sign Boozer and Millsap and stay under luxury cap witout trading AK for expirings?
To be honest with you, I think the Jazz had to add first round pick (probably that NY pick) to find any takers for AK's 15.0, 16.5 and 17.8 M.

Seriously though, I can't imagine a piece of crap big enough to make up for Matt. Maybe if a million Elephants all took a **** at once. And then they did that a billion-kadrillion-million times over the next million years. Then MAYBE. Crazy.

IMO, Sap is as good as gone. There's no way we keep him and Boozer with or without AK. As much as I love Sap, I'm starting to think Boozer is more valuable to the team. Sap is putting up points, but anyone watching the games can see how much our offense and rebounding suffers without Boozer, while our defense doesn't improve that much.
Someone like the Grizzlies will offer around 9 million to Sap, and there's no way we're gonna pay that much to a guy that at most will be playing around 25 minutes per game. A frontcourt of Boozer/Memo/Kosta with AK playing about 10 minutes at PF sound good to me, as Kosta provides the shotblocking center we have always wanted.
The **** up thing about this situation is we could trade Sap right now, since his value is at an all time high, but if Boozer decides to leave, we're really, really ****. Jazz, IMO, should just stand pat and see what the team can do with full power (although it seems Deron won't be at his best for a while) before pulling the trigger on any major trades.

we traded for cap space:
Harpring + Korver for Wally and that first.

We traded 2009 pick for Korver so that's a wash.
Essentially, Harp for Wally, Harp being the sacrificial lamb for cap space.
Harp's and Korver's salary off the books is a nice start. The most glaring SNAFU, not picking up Almond's contract.

It's a big risk for Cleveland - Boozer and Wally in street clothes behind Jazz bench swapping Cleveland jokes.

I'm thinking if we simply want to dump AK's salary, we can do better.

I also think that AK's value is increasing and will continue to increase if he keeps up his level of play.

is he more important than boozer & millsap though? and do you get more production/value per dollar with ak or the other two? i think that's the big issue as far as trading ak for an expiring is concerned.

That's not a sacrifice that is necessary. Keeping both Paul and Carlos is just as much about position.

Why Utah does it?
Camby would provide tough interior defense that Utah has lacked. Sean Williams brings some nice energy and shot blocking off the bench and Najera is a solid bench player. If Utah is going to trade Kirilenko they absolutely need to get defense in return and Camby and Williams provide exactly that.

Why New Jersey does it?
They unload Williams who they can't find minutes for. Vince has been great but has 3 more years on his deal - Ricky Davis, Brian Skinner and Morris Almond are all on their final year providing some flexibility. Kirilenko and Jianlian together could be a fun tandem. Russia and China?

Why the Clippers do it?
They have a logjam of big men with Camby, Kaman and Randolph. This allows Kaman and Randolph to dominate down low while adding the explosive Vince Carter to run the court alongside Baron Davis and Al Thornton! This would be one of the most explosive and fun to watch starting lineups in the NBA! Their depth will continue to be an issue but what an amazing starting 5.
