I'm sure Boozer will opt out but there is a couple things working against him right now:
- injury - even on seemingly small injuries he takes FOREVER to come back. And not just once--repeatedly since signing his big deal.
- current economic climate - how immune to this are teams going to be? Are teams going to be running to sign long-term, big money deals in spite of a drop in attendance, sponsorship money, and revenues? Maybe - although teams like Miami won't have any expiring contracts next summer except Marion - unless they trade him like has been rumored. Also, if basketball revenue drops significantly, so could the salary cap and leave more teams much closer to the luxury tax threshold than they planned for.
- His backup has a bunch of consecutive double-doubles. Things will be tight salary-wise next season with everyone that needs to be resigned. I'm not sure Boozer is a $16/year player. If someone throws that much at him, are you willing to match or exceed it at the cost of letting MIllsap & another major player go?

Finally, Boozer doesn't have the huge trade value in the league right now BECAUSE he will opt out next season. Nobody is giving up a star for him when they could lose him this offseason for nothing. Unless they are looking to salary-dump. Then you are only getting overpaid guys or other expiring deals or mass quantities of lesser players, most of which you have to cut and eat the salary.

New York Knicks send:
Stephon Marbury |07-08: $21,937,500|

Utah Jazz send:
Carlos Boozer |07-08: $11,593,817| |08-09: $12,657,233 (Player Option)|
Matt Harpring |07-08: $6,000,000| |08-09: $6,500,000|
Morris Almond |07-08: $2,074,302|
Jarron Collins |07-08: $1,081,440|

The idea behind this trade is that the Knicks can get rid of Marbury and start using some good players once healthy, who are also expiring contracts.

Why would we do anything to help the Knicks get a lower pick in the 2010 draft?

What would you want from the Bulls?

Would you want Deng? Would you want expirings in return like Gooden and Simmons and a pick? Would you want Hinrich and Nocioni?

What would you want from Chicago?

I've been for Boozer for a quality 5 since long before the season started. If I can get a Okafor or Kaman or Bogut, sign me up. Otherwise, I'll just play out the year and see what opens up next season with sign and trades or plain ole signings.

From past exp there isn't a lot people want from the Bulls. Hinrich and Deng get paid too much, Gooden isn't good enough, Noc is too similar to Ak, and so forth.

Utah Trades
-Carlos Boozer
-Filler

Cleveland Trades
-Wally Zcerbiak's expiring contract
-JJ Hickson
-2009 Unconditional 1st round pick
-2011 Unconditional 1st round pick

Hickson is a big with upside and sort of fits in the Paul Milsap role. The 2011 pick could be good if James bolts in 2010 like the entire world expects.

While having a couple of future firsts would be nice, they are going to be in the mid 20's as long as King James is at the helm, that is of course unless he goes to NYC in 2010.

How hilarious would it be for the Jazz to send Boozer back to Cleveland as a final thank you for everything.

Pistons fan here. I come in peace. How would the Jazz view an AK47 + someone for Iverson (expiring) trade? He's got an ugly contract, but I think he would be a perfect fit for the Pistons. Ideally, AK47 + Brewer for Iverson would be great, but I think AK47 + Miles or AK47 + Koufos and Knight would work also. Opinions?

I'd rather deal for Billups.

If the Jazz trade Boozer, I don't think the focus should necessarily be on getting a big man in return. The focus should be on getting a scorer in return-someone that the Jazz can give the ball to and say "go get us some points." It doesn't have to be a big man, although the system works better that way.

I wouldn't mind Bogut, and I'd be satisfied with Okafor. I think Kaman is vastly overrated.

If I were in charge, I'd make a hard push for Caron Butler, probably in a 3 way. I suppose I can handle Rip, as long as Brewer is fine with shifting to 3. Either of those deals would make the wing glut worse, but a

Williams
Brewer
Butler
Millsap
Okur

lineup seems very, very appealing to me.
Paul Millsap is the Chuck Norris of the NBA.

What could be appealing about having Mehmet for your center? He is really weak. In fact, he is the weakest link.

We need to trade or waive Almond and sign a big guy. Im sick and tired of Jerry not playing our bigs and playing that ass hat Harpring.

Hmm tinkered with something.

Bobcats trade
Wallace
Bell
Morrison

Jazz trade
Boozer
Almond
Harpring

Nets trade
Najera

Bobcats get
Boozer
Almond
Harpring

Jazz get
Wallace
Bell
Najera

Nets get Morrison

Nets would probably have to add a pick or something but I think it gives utah a more utah team adding a hustler in najera, lockdown defender in bell who can hit the 3. And wallace whos just another all around guy whos a good defender and would just make our team better imo.

Lineup looks like

Okur/Kosta
Millsap/AK/Najera
Wallace/Korver/Miles
Bell/Brewer/Miles
Deron/Knight/Price

KOC has been known to make some good trades i.e. the Deron draft, the Korver for Giri trade, and even the Hill for Fesenko move was a good one.

If he makes a trade, it will be the right thing to do.

O'Conner has never made a major player for major player trade, while with the Jazz. If Boozer walks his job is not on the line and he does not catch much flak from the fans. If he makes a major trade and it does not work out then the will catch a lot of flak of the news media, fans and possibly management.
