Jazz fans, tell me about Koufos

Everytime I see Utah boxscores he seems to produce pretty well in limited minutes. Is he a Marcin Gortat type (not usefull for anything but limited minutes) or is he a porject who will anchor the centre position for the Jazz in the (near) future?

Thanks!

Are these my only choices?

Then I pick porject Gortat type in the middel with Marcin.

Just kidding.

Koufus is way better than those whatevers.

Can you actually show me some insight instead of trying to be the funny man around here? Really, I'd be ashamed to try and make such an easy joke here.

I am. Sorry.

Seriously though, did you expect anyone here to know who Marcin Gortat is????

Yes, if you follow NBA games, you would have noticed someone filling in pretty well when Dwight Howard was injured.

Way to make yourself look like a complete (Please Use More Appropriate Word), thanks for saving me the energy.

David Ginola 14,

What are his weak areas? The few highlights I saw, showed me that he's a pretty mobile player, more mobile than I'd first thought. What does he need to do to get over 20 minutes a game?

Oh well, at least I can spell porject and centre, Einstein.

Oh Christ, you actually think anyone outside Orlando cares about the "magic?"

I personnally think that Koufos will become an excellent player. Maybe not a guy that post big stats like Boozer can but definitely someone that can impact the games on both ends of the floor.
At 19 he is already extremely impressive.
The fact that he logs this many minutes under a coach that usually doesn't play rookies , should give you a hint of what kind of prospect Koufos is.

He is going to be terrific. At 19 he almost already has a body to compete with the big centers of the nba, he is very athletic for his size.
Skills wise he already has some post moves inside, he has really nice hands. He shots 75.7% from the free throw line so that tells you he has a solid shooting form.

But more importantly was makes this dude so promising is his mental. He seems really though and he is a very hard worker. He listens to the coach (before the seasons some journalists called him a Scout , talking about how polite this guy was) and you can see he just loves basketball.
He is very intense on the floor and he goes after every shot on defense. He was pictured as a younger version of Okur but he is a much better defender. I don't think there is a rookie center who defends better this year, and yes , i'm aware that Oden is a rookie.
He really goes after every shots. Last night he only blocked 2 shots , but because of him , the Pistons missed a lot more shots inside even though he did'nt directly blocked them.

This kid's got it all , the skills, the body , the athleticism , the mental , the work ethic. He got it all.
Don't forget that this guy was a Mcdonald's all star.Let's not forget that he scored 40pts in the European U20 championship . He's always been a great prospect and i can't believe he dropped till the 23rd pick in the last draft. This is one of the biggest draft mistake of the past 5 years.

I really think that , barring injuries, this guy is a lock for top 5 centers during his prime and you can quote me. I know that there is a lot of talented young centers, mainly Howard,Bynum,Oden,Lopez,Hawes,... but this kid is really really special.
In 10 years that i've been following the jazz very closely, he is by far the rookie whose potential has impressed me the most.

I am not comparing his game to Brad Miller, only where I think his future star level will be. He will make an all-star game or two as a default center.

I agree with everything said in this post, though I think he'll be better than Boozer on defense and game smarts. Boozer has great instincts in specific situations, but I think Koufos will be a more versatile player with better and quicker reactions in a variety of situations.

I watched him a bit last year when he played for Ohio State and I was hoping the Jazz would draft him.

Kosta is impressive. He is only 19 and he has the body to play right now. Tall and strong. He can rebound and he produces since min 1 he is on the floor. He is a steal and he is tons better than Gortat (Yes I know who he is... if you watch one or two magic games is easy to know)
I think he can be another Okur with more defense and less range, altough he can shoot, but already he is capable to block more.

For a 19 year old rookie, he's playing extremely well right now.

Basically the guy loves to attack, he loves to go after shots, grab boards, and dunk the ball in transition. He's huge, his wingspan is ridiculous, and his athleticism is superb for his size.

If he can stay healthy (knock on wood) he has a very bright future. There is no reason that a year or two from now he shouldn't be as good or better then Andrew Bogut is in his current state, and his ceiling appears to be significantly higher.

This year is difficult that he plays over 20 minutes..
He is close by Okur-Millsap- and Kirilenko (he often plays 4)...
However Sloan is happy about Koufos...

Thanks for the insight guys! I'm always looking at other teams too (maybe this come naturally being a Clippers fan), and I hope he pans out. The Boozer situation is bugging me since I was hopind Deron would be able to lead the Jazz to the Western finals.

Then again, Millsapp has been a revelation, and I'm curious to see how he and Okur play together.

The thing that impresses me the most is that he is actually quite quick for his size. I didn't expect this, since he looks like a goofy, lanky greek. But really, I have seen him cover A LOT of floor very quickly, much quicker than Okur ever has been. He lacks in offense right now, but as a Jazz fan, I am glad to see a center that seems to care more about his defense than offense, at least for now. I would love to have the Jazz develop him more defensively and rebounding, and let his offensive game follow. Since he spends most of his time on the floor with good offensive players, this shouldn't be a problem.

This is a kid I hope the Jazz hang onto for a very long time. He has the heart to be what every Jazz fan wants in a C, but I don't think he will overperform so much that he will cost a lot of money. I think he has all the potential Fes ever had, but actually works at it. Too bad he has VERY LITTLE personality compared to Fes in those interviews...

Don't mind freak, he's some troll from Jazzfanz who's been recently suspended and possibly banned. His personal attacks are out of control recently, I suspect it's due to some personal problems increasing his insecurity of people.

Kofous is the man, I was at his first start in Philly. Bobbled his first pass and turned it over but was pretty solid with some buckets, blocks, and even an outside J or so. And yes, he CAN hit the outside J.
