How close is DWill?

Post#1 » by erudite23 » Thu Jan 22, 2009 9:38 pm

Health-wise, obviously.

90%?

93%?

97%?

...or does anyone think he's fully healthy right now?

He has been awful good for the last week or two, and his January stats are actually reflecting 20/10 for the month.

But for me, I won't declare him fully healthy until he gets back to shooting at least 48% over a decent stretch of games. Still doesn't have that extra oomph in the legs that makes him such a great shooter and finisher at the hoop. imo.

The great news, though, is that it looks like he actually WILL get back to being fully healthy this year; something that many people claimed would never happen. That's very encouraging at least.

although I think Deron is pretty close to recovery, I'm kind of curious about his mental state.

It seems like at times, when he was injured, he tried to force things a bit. I think that nagged at him a bit and he may be in a bit of a mental slump. That said, I think the real Deron is pretty close to resurfacing and should just be a stronger player when it's done.

I think he is almost there. Soon as we see him dunk on someone, then we will know he is back.

Physically. I think he is 100%. If not 100% he's very very close.

Mentally- he just doesn't have that chip on his shoulder that he had post-all star game last year. The pissed off determined DWill of of last year just hasn't shown up this year. Don't get me wrong, there's been times when we've seen glimpses of that DWill, but he's been fairly inconsistent and complacent this year. Hopefully all he needs is some rest. I'm hoping that in the next month or so he will really start to come around now that he's physically back.

we can argue about his physical health vs. his mental health all day, but the bottom line is that they are one and the same. If he doesn't THINK it's healthy, then its not. It will only be fully healthy when he stops thinking about it and treats it like any other part of his body. I think the reason why he hasn't had that edge you're talking about is because he still has it in the back of his head that he's injured and he doesn't want to risk aggravating it.

I've seen some signs of that going away recently--all one need do is to look at his FT attemtps the last 4 games to see proof of that--which is one of the main reason's I am so optimistic.

Still, he hasn't hammered one down on someone's head yet, like the last poster said. I'm eagerly awaiting that.
