Checking in on Ante Tomic!

So I was looking into what the future of the Jazz might look like and remembered our old friend Ante Tomic!

http://www.draftexpress.com/profile/Ante-Tomic-257/

Apparently he is playing quite well this season averaging about 15/9/2/1 with solid percentages.

Here is a list of his game logs: http://www.eurobasket.com/player.asp?Cn ... erID=53588

I wonder if the Jazz will try to bring him over this offseason or if they will leave him for at least another season to see if he develops.

All report show that his offensive game is very refined, but he appears to be recognized as a finesse player with a very underdeveloped body.

In case you are interested Tadija Dragicevic appears to be pretty average this season.

The guy is a thinner rail than Ajinca, and he has less talent. Why would we waste a roster spot on him....let him stay overseas for another couple years

He's more talented then Ajinca, he just doesn't share the same freak athleticism. Ajinca has literally no low post game to speak of while Tomic has one of the best low post games of anyone in Europe. Yes he is skinny, but I'd rather have a guy with a developed game who the Jazz spend time trying to get him stronger, then a big tough guy with now low post game.

He is skinny Pau Gasol.

That aggressiveness is also missed on defense. To start with, Tomic looks rather underwhelming when it comes to using his great length to intimidate. As fluid as he can look displaying an offensive move, he often seems a bit stiff on defense. His lateral quickness is poor, as he often doesn’t bend his knees enough and sometimes struggles recovering his position after a rotation. On top of that, he’s not physical with his opponents, with his physical weakness being part of the problem. However, he does seem to care about rebounding and makes an effort to box out his match-up.

Dont we have enough big men that cant play defense.

Like Jozef said, he is an extremely poor man's Pau Gasol. He is similarly skilled and fluid as Pau is offensively, but he lacks the movement abilities, and his frame is even more frail and sickly than the Spaniard's is.

The guy might be a good situational guy off the bench down the road, but he is a horrible fit for what the Jazz need right now. He would be a good change of pace for a team with a banger like Oden, Dwight, Okafor, Bynum or even Jefferson. But on this team, where we need more toughness and aggression and less finesse, he would be horrible.

He needs at least another two years of seasoning before we can even consider bringing him over, imo. But he wouldn't be a bad little trade chip to help facilitate a trade or something of that nature.

Blasphemy!

The Jazz can never have too many freakishly tall caucasian players. The less coordinated the better.
