Debunking Salmons/Harpring myth

Post#1 » by jozef » Fri Feb 20, 2009 2:19 pm

It's important cause it does stand lonely in memories of few bashers.

John Salmons scored 21 points in Kings' home 117-107 win. He had 6 points coming into 4th Q.

10:47 Millsap Foul:Shooting (3 PF)
10:47 [SAC 75-79] Salmons Free Throw 1 of 2 (7 PTS)
10:47 [SAC 76-79] Salmons Free Throw 2 of 2 (8 PTS)
10:23 Millsap Foul:Personal (4 PF)
10:23 [SAC 77-79] Salmons Free Throw 1 of 2 (9 PTS)
10:23 [SAC 78-79] Salmons Free Throw 2 of 2 (10 PTS)
9:52 [SAC 80-81] Salmons Floating Jump shot: Made (12 PTS)
9:23 [SAC 82-84] Salmons Jump Shot: Made (14 PTS)
9:23 Harpring Foul:Shooting (2 PF)
9:23 [SAC 83-84] Salmons Free Throw 1 of 1 (15 PTS)

9:04 Okur Foul:Shooting (2 PF)
9:04 [SAC 84-84] Salmons Free Throw 1 of 2 (16 PTS)
9:04 [SAC 85-84] Salmons Free Throw 2 of 2 (17 PTS)

7:29 Harpring Substitution replaced by Brewer [SAC 89-86]

So Salmons scored 11 points in that legendary 2-minute performance: 6 points on free throws after Millsap's and Okur's fouls and 5 points on jumpers and free throw against zone defense.

Here is the evidence:

Watch from 1:10 to 1:20 mark. The floater came from the middle while Harpring was in left corner. The short jumper was off the dribbling when Matt had to sprint from his man under basket to perimeter.
There was no timeout called but I have no evidence if zone defense was played during whole 2-minute stretch.

Its too bad that each log in your timeline doesnt show the part "Salmons blows by Harpring" in front of every foul, because thats what happened.

I suppose they play zone defense for that 2-minute stretch and Jazz player (maybe Harp or other player) was probably blowed by cause of zone rotation not one-to-one play.

Look at first play:
It's Kirilenko who gambles for a steal and gets blowed by Salmons.
Look at second play:
Harpring cover a man right under basket cause Millsap goes to the corner to help Williams. Okur sags off his man and does not rotate at all to move to Salmons so Harpring sprints to him, gets blow on anticipation move, tries to strip him from behind while Millsap stands there for help defense. What want you more from Harp? I guess Millsap opted not to jump after collecting two fouls on previous plays.

Notice the inordinate amount of times you used the word "blow" or "gets blowed by"

maybe seejaydeja wasnt so far off?

What? I just described plays in that video to help you understand what's going on there.

LOL, you can clearly see Harpring chasing Salmons in one of those shots because Harp had just gotten burned by him.

LOL. Nobody can sprint from one defender under basket to challenge perimeter shooter and stay in front of him. Did you ever see it or make it?
