Post#1 » by dalekjazz » Tue Mar 24, 2009 4:08 pm

The Salt Lake Tribune is approaching its list of top 20 players all-time on the Jazz. Here is my order of the top 20 players all-time on the Jazz:

20) Bobby Hansen
19) John Drew
18) Jeff Malone
17) Matt Harpring
16) Bryon Russell
15) Carlos Boozer
14) Rich Kelley
13) Mehmet Okur
12) Thurl Bailey
11) Truck Robinson
10) Andrei Kirilenko
09) Rickey Green
08) Deron Williams
07) Mark Eaton
06) Jeff Hornacek
05) Darrell Griffith
04) Adrian Dantley
03) Pistol Pete
02) Karl Malone
01) John Stockton

Any thoughts?

Yeah, probably a pretty good list. Top 4 are right. Then when it gets into the Griffith/Eaton/Horny area they could make a legit argument for any of those guys.

Is this best players based on their Jazz games/career or best players based on their entire career? No way is pistol pete #3 based on his Utah jazz career, he can get a pass I guess since he was awesome and played for NOJ. Guys like Tom Chambers and Danny Manning didn't do a lot for the Jazz but were far better players overall than quite a few guys on this list. I find it funny they Bryon Russell is even here in the top 20. He didn't really do all that much and was a complete product of the system. Jeff Malone may have been a black hole at times, but I would much rather of traded Russell for Hornacek than Jeff Malone.

I think they are talking about Jazz history, not only in Utah.
And I think they are talking only in Jazz uniform, not in all carreer.

Altough I love Stockton more than Malone, I think Malone has to be listed number 1. He is the only Jazz player who won the mvp trohpy (both times) and he is the second leader scorer in NBA history.
I know what Stockton did was amazing as well, and it's a toss up, but Malone was always the guy who had more mvp votes.

It's called 'Jazz at 35' so it's NO as well. I agree FJS, Malone is #1. The only way I see Stockton being #1 is if the voters have a bias toward him. Has the SL Trib always been critical of Malone and favored Stockton? Even so, they will probably still pick Karl. I can't comment on a lot of the players before 1996 but I do believe that DW will be higher than 8.

Don't worry folks, the traditional cop out of 1A and 1B will be in full effect.

I think malone is 1 on the list. The reason why I think he doesn't get it from some is that he disappeared in some big games, and he bugged a lot of people because he spoke his mind. Stockton on the other hand, kept his mouth shut and played basketball. This is one of the many reasons the fans loved him. I think if malone were a little more like stockton and kept his mouth shut, then more people would be placing him at number 1.

Hard to put Malone over Stockton IMO. Malone does have two MVP awards which was awesome, however Stockton has two all time NBA leading records with assists and steals, and all of them were in a Jazz uniform.

And those records are not going to be broken anytime soon.

I'd be shocked if they put Dantley over Maravich. Multiple all-star games, one of the 50 greatest players of all time.

It'd be a real slight to Pete if he wasn't #3.

Pistol was a great Hawk and LSU tiger. He wasn't all that with the Jazz.

http://www.sltrib.com/jazz/ci_11766315 - that is the top 50 so far. I cant find my old thread that had the WHOLE list posted.

I think that AD produced and meant more to the Franchise than the Pistol ever did.

They switched Boozer and The Fastest of them all, but I nailed Griff and DWill.
