In 1989, the second seeded Jazz beat the Warriors in the last game of the regular season. In the first round of the playoffs after that game, the seventh seeded Warriors swept the Jazz (the only time the Jazz have been swept in the playoffs).
In 1995, the third seeded Jazz (60 wins that year) beat the Rockets in the last game of the regular season. In the first round of the playoffs after that game, the sixth seeded Rockets beat the Jazz 3-2 and went on to win the championship.

There are a few diferences from those series to the one we'll be starting in a few days. Lakers are the 1st seed. We're the 8th. It's a best of 7 series, not a best of 5. Jazz can't win on the road. Lakers are one hell of a team at home and on the road.
BTW, how many times did the 8th seed beat the 1st seed in the playoffs in NBA history? My guess is not too many.

It can also be argued that the Jazz are going to be one of the better eight seeds in a while. How many more games would the Jazz have won if they had been healthy all season long? Let's also not forget, the Jazz led yesterday's game for a quite a while and were in it until the fourth quarter. Utah was also playing without Mehmet Okur and C.J. Miles. When you really think about it, it's not really the daunting task that it seems. The Jazz only have to win once on the road against the Lakers to have a chance. The Jazz nearly beat the Lakers on the road in Game 5 last season and probably would have won a Game 7 in that series if it would have happened. We are playing them this year with essentially the same team as last year. If there were any chance of a 1 seed-8 seed upset, this would be the one I would choose. Sure, the Jazz haven't beat the Lakers in L.A. this season, but they haven't beaten US in Utah either. The Jazz are getting closer and closer to pulling out a win in the Staples Center. Utah just needs to hold home court to have a serious chance.

Wow...the mind shrinks from such abject idiocy. This team is dead in the water. We are flostam washed up on the seashore. We are the streaks of pooh leftover in the toilet after a particularly nasty flush.

We don't stand one damn chance in a million of beating this Laker team. You can sig quote me on that.

I don't know... had my tennis get wheels skates they will be... yet... we really didn't have a superb record with our roster healthy either... in fact I think records were very much similar with and without injuries...

That's not to say we CAN'T beat the Lakers. You're right about last playoffs, the Jazz were the western team that fought them the most. But I think this year it's a different story because our team looked completely lost and pretty scared out there for a vast pat of the season...
