Recently called AK out for not playing up to his contract
"Sometimes money gets in the way of other people's thoughts about players," Sloan said.
"It's kind of like when we had (center Greg) Ostertag," he added. "Ostertag got a big contract, and they expected him to play like (Kareem Abdul-) Jabbar. Well, he wasn't. And that happens with a lot of people sometimes."
http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/ ... _contract/also kind of bagged on his team for their chances versing LA ( i think this was more of a 'goating' like phil said, just tryin to do something to get these guys to play)
"We didn't give them much of a battle, knowing we have to play them again," said Sloan. "It looks pretty bleak...
"They have a terrific team. They have guys who can pass the ball, do about anything you ask a team to do. They've got guys who can make big shots, who just know how to play the game, make the game look simple...
"We're just like a little dent in the road, far as they're concerned. They're very comfortable playing against us and obviously should be."
http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/ ... st_lakers/why is he doing this now? do you think this is just him at the end of his wits, trying to motivate this team to win? imo he picked the wrong guy to call out (ak) the guy is just as fragile mentally as he is physically. the last thing i wanna see is AK crying again...

He's just telling the truth. I don't think there's a message here beyond the fact that he is disappointed and he's not going to mince words about it.

I know he's telling the truth. It was just odd to me, cause this organization (with the exception of sloan and lhm sometimes) have always been pretty "politically correct" in the way they address the media. i'm glad sloan came out and was blunt about it. I like real talk.

It's not like Sloan said AK wasn't earning his money. That is just what the wiretap wants you to think.
In all reality all he said was it's impossible to live up to crazy expectations people have because like I said in the past, people think max money is a statistic or a boost that puts you in a certain talent group. All it does is retain a player for a team.

I don't see how he's calling out AK.
When Sloan says something is pretty bleak it really says a lot about the shape of the team. Let's hope there's an ace in the hole and the ship is turned around.

I'm just as sick of how this season went as anyone and at least some of the blame lies with sloan. It's great that he's always quick to take blame in a generic sort of way but when was the last time he admitted to something specific and then went about changing it? I think people are reading too much into his AK comments but if there is someone that needs to be called out it's booze and his incredibly soft game since his return. Calling out is not enough tho if he comes out weak then bench his ass immediately.....

Sloan has done one of his better coaching performances this season IMO.
Considering not only the ridiculous injuries and still getting a team into the playoffs, but to think of how many of these guys have come out this season looking to "get theirs" in order to boost their contracts he's done a very good job of keeping the individuality at a minimum, even if it has started to peak it's head in the past month.

Really....because altho he hasn't been as bad as I've felt he's done previous I think he's done the worst thing possible and that is alienate Deron....IMO at least, he's lost Deron with some of his "coaching" decisions....

Who's going to call out Sloan on not earning his contract this year?

I think Sloan has hit the end of his rope for this season, I don't blame him for calling players out but he needs to watch what he says. We don't need anyone being thrown under buses.

I think that Kirilenko is worth every penny!

Reading this I'm thinking more about Boozer.

Sounds like he's defending AK, not calling him out.

When AK cried he came back and played well, I wouldn't mind that.

I don't find anything wrong with what Sloan said, and it isn't like AK hasn't been in Sloan's doghouse before because he has been in it before.

You rang? Sloan should coach as well as Popovich or Phil Jackson with the money he makes.
Sloan has been doing this more and more and seems llike a crybaby at this point. And why in the world would he want to toss Kirilenko under the bus publicly when he knows the guy has trouble handing it? I think he's nervous about the FAs at the end of the year, but he's the one that's supposed to hold things together if you guys have any shot at making a series of it with LA. Your team is one of my favorites to watch- I hope Sloan doesn't mess it up.

Sloan has a long history of whining about players and then having them shipped off to other teams (good luck having that happen with Kirilenko and hs massive contract) and it's not like the Jazz players don't deserve to be critisized, they sure as hell do....... Boozer has been an abomination on defense this year, although his injury might have something to do with it (and some other years too), but our defensive philosophy, or lack there of, is entirely Sloan's doing....... And he deserves a lot of blame for it.......
Just like he deserves blame for playing Matty ahead of AK, or Collins ahead of Koufos...... I don't care how smart Collins is, HE CAN'T PLAY BASKETBALL....... Koufos can....... That should be the end of the conversation, but Jerry is different.......
The Jazz are not going to be a serious title contender with Jerry Sloan....... The sooner they realize that, the better.......

Agreed, and all season I didnt get why their record wasnt better. Then they went on that run, and I thought 'finally'. Sloan may be a part of it, I don't know - you guys see the games and the news very day. From afar, ALL we hear is either about pending FAs, or Sloan going off again: Kirilenko, Arroyo awhile back, etc... or his draconian methods (which may or may not be true). He doesn't seem to respect his players much, and that may be the critical issue.

That's it. I didn't thought Sloan was calling players out. I'm not english language native though...
Coach was just stating that players are who they are and not what people expect they should be based on their salaries. I tought Sloan was trying to take pressure away from his players.
