Van Gundy For Sloan

Post#1 » by awesomator » Tue May 12, 2009 8:39 pm

How do you think Van Gundy would fit in Utah? I love that he is a defensive minded coach. Sloan gets rep for being one, but we all know he cares more about "trying hard" than anything else important.... Like defense (which is why Korver gets so much burn even though his D is atrocious). Van Gundy basically put together the Rockets team playing now and made the Knicks a defensive juggernaut 99-01 too.

I know Sloan will coach until 2048 but I can dream. What other coach that is available would Sloan Haters want?

Former NBA coach Jeff Van Gundy is currently working as an ESPN analyst, but sees himself coaching again down the road.

I'd love Van Gundy to come in as our head coach. I hope we'd keep our offensive system but Van Gundy would really help with our defense.

I've always loved Van Gundy. I'd take him in a heartbeat. Good coach and great interview.
"Thibs called back and wanted more picks," said Jorge Sedano. "And Pat Riley, literally, I was told, called him a mother-bleeper and hung up the phone."

I love how everyone thinks that with the personnel we currently have, that we could just become a defensive powerhouse with any coach.

Sloan isn't stupid, he knows the teams weakness is defense, we can't just magically change to a good defensive team, so Sloan puts us into a position where our O will have to win games.

It doesn't matter what coach we have, with this lineup our defense will always suck, its sad that some people cannot grasp that.

Thank you AK.

My question... would you all be willing to give up AK and Memo and the NY pick for Crawford and Turiaf and the 3rd pick (Thabeet), if GS gets 3rd?

PS Lets call it hypothetical since I haven't looked at money

I don't get the violin thing. Yes or no. It was a tester question.

I think you missed the part about Van Gundy having a track record of building good defensive teams, ala NYK and HOU (although Rudy T had the Hou D playing pretty well before VG).

Plus, "this lineup" is a thing of the past, Jazz could look near unrecognizable next year if management decided to shake things up.

I guess my point is, what value would you put on getting Thabeet, something that could be possible is GS gets the third pick.

Stop it! I need an opinion of someone I don't get into silly arguments with.

This has turned into a GS Trade topic.... Turiaf and Crawford are overpaid scrubs and we would rather have AK. At least AK is an overpaid former All-Star with a decent all around game.

Only Warriors trade that should interest the Jazz is something like:

AK and Brewer (exposed for what he is, has maxed out his potential)

for

Magette and Jackson

I honestly like the idea of going for Thabeet. Sloan system works well with a true center. I was thinking of swapping the Knick's pick to whomever lands the third pick but it's tough to make these decisions without knowing who's staying and who is going.

i don't like the idea of giving up the NY pick, that pick is coming in a much deeper and more talented draft than this year's. Everyone but Griffin and maybe Rubio are question marks.
