OMG Boozer might stay!!!

Detroit, the only team that may want this slug will not pay any free agent over 10 mil per year. No way Boozer will accept that. Read it while reviewing draft articles and saw Pistons not interested in Boozer.
If Boozer doesnt opt out, plays out the year hoping for better deal next year. Jazz resign Memo to long term deal. Detroit offers Millsap 10 mil per year, Jazz cannot afford to match offer, unless they trade Boozer.
I guess Jazz could match offer see how team starts season then decide to trade loozer during season if team and/or him not playing well. If team making title run, pay luxury tax.
I would prefer Jazz trade Loozer now if he doesnt opt out. I dont think Boozer is opting out. WOW

I don't think no one will offer Milsap more then Mid level in this this economic envirorment then the Jazz will match that offer .

I think someone will, but not by much (say 7 million). Of course Detroit did just sell Amir Johnson so maybe I am wrong.

It doesn't matter how much they throw at Millsap, we are going to match anything and everything. We have made that clear since the end of the season. Miller said that they were willing to pay the luxury tax to keep him.

I do not believe we will match any offer for Milsap. I know what was said, but every year that is said by somebody to try to hold down the number of bidders.

After the AK debacle my guess is the Jazz won't overpay for anyone. If the jazz think it's too much they'll let you walk.

If Boozer does not opt out, that means he will almost certainly be traded, which could be fun.
Im hoping he opts in just for that reason alone.

If I were Boozer's agent, I'm really not sure what I'd advise him to do. On the one hand, opting in guarantees 12.5M this year and sets him up to take advantage of all the extra cash teams will have next summer; however if he gets hurt the chances of him landing a big longterm deal next offseason are dramatically decreased.
I think more than anything Boozer wants a 5-year deal. I think length of contract is more important to him than per/year dollars.

I don't think the AK mistake and Millsap can be compared. AK was looking to be a top 10 talent in the league and was paid a max contract. Millsap is looking to be a solid starting or backup PF who hustles and fits their system and team perfectly who will be offered 10 mil at the max. The front office and coaching staff is in love with Millsap and gives the Jazz exactly what they want and need. Millsap will stay in Utah regardless of any offers any teams make him.

I think his options may come down to only 3:
1) Opt out and take a chance on free agency--though it appears his market is pretty small. If he is willing to take a pay cut (in per year money) to secure a longer term deal then he would have a chance.
2) Opt in and take a chance next year as a unrestricted free agent. This may work to his advantage, unless he has a bad year or another injury. And there is no security of a long term deal.
3) Opt in and try to negotiate an extention with the Jazz. This could be done although the Jazz have the upper hand in this due to the economic conditions across the league and the potential free agent market. The team may want to just wait their options out rather than lock up something now--unless the are given a deal for doing so.
If I'm Boozer, I'd opt in and do everything I could to have a good year--putting the injuries out of the minds of GMs. Though I do know one factor in getting a deal sooner rather than later is the possibility that the next CBA would reduce the amount players are eligible to be paid...

This idea that the Jazz will match ANY offer made to Millsap is completely rediculous. They may go into the luxury tax to keep him if both boozer and Okur opt in, but they are not going to match some rediculous AK-esque contact.

Matching any offer over 7 mil a year for millsap would be dumb.
I hope boozer stays. Give this team a chance if they can stay healthy. One year older and one year more expierenced. If boozer, and okur and korver all opt out we may resign 1 or 2, but next year we will have less talent.

I like Paul, and one of the biggest reasons for that is he was dirt cheap.
Im not so sure I like Paul if he has a huge deal...and I KNOW I wont like him at the ridiculous amount of 10 mil a year that Echo dillusionally thinks is possible.
If Boozer opts in, it very possibly means Millsap is gone. You dont, or shouldnt anyway, pay more than the mid-level on a backup level player.

They have said they will keep him regardless of what happens. Why is it so ridiculous to think they would pay Millsap 7-8 mil? Is that really too expensive for what he brings?

Yes, it is too expensive...especially if Boozer stays and he is a backup only.
Just because they SAY they will do what it takes, doesnt mean they will do it...what do you expect them to say? Like someone said earlier, by saying that it also deters other potential suitors. Of course thats what they would say.

Millsap is exactly what the Jazz want why would they let him go? I rather have Millsap over Boozer and I'm sure no one would be sad to see Boozer go and Millsap stay in his place. He is loved by the fans and loved by the organization why do you let him walk and keep Booze? Makes no sense, they keep him no matter what price.

If I were Boozer's agent I'd advise him to opt in and then sign a new contract from 2010-2011 to 2013-14 worth 50 M with ETO in third and PO in fourth.

I am not a Jazz fan but I fully agree with you. Millsap is a stud and in my opinion a better overall player than Boozer (who is an AllStar payer himself.) As much as I wish my home team could get Millsap I cant think of any way the Jazz would not match any offer.
