Kyle Korver Opts-In

Post#1 » by babyjax13 » Mon Jun 29, 2009 10:29 pm

According to Ross Siler from the Salt Lake Tribune Kyle Korver has opted-in to his contract for next season.

Jazz guard Kyle Korver notified the team Monday afternoon that he will not opt out of his contract to become a free agent.

Korver will make $5.2 million for the upcoming season, his third with the Jazz after arriving in a December 2007 trade from Philadelphia for Gordan Giricek.

Korver averaged 9.0 points and shot 38.6 percent from three-point range last season.
His preference had been to stay in Utah, and he could revisit extension talks with the Jazz later this summer.

Not to be a stickler, but Korver's contract is actually $5,338,636 for next season.

I am seeing triple...

That is too bad. What can we get for his 7 mil expiring. I wouldn't mind keeping him but for much less.

duh

lol. Who was going to pay more? His best hope was Utah would pony up 20 mil over 5 years. Get some long term security. Looks like he's just an expiring for us now.

Good news IMO. He had a subpar season because of wrist injury. He's a keeper and will be bringing more to the table this next season, and his price tag is really good.

My bad on starting the other post. Didn't see it. Good move for the Jazz.

Korver stays in, provides an obvious skill that the Jazz need, and means there are less questions a week from now then there could have been. At the very worst he's a super valuable expiring contract at the trade deadline. 5 million is enough to get a good player back in a trade, or he could be packaged with Harpring to create 10 million dollars in expiring contracts.

Like this for the Jazz.

You're right Bat. I envision him long term In a Jazz uni, yet the trade value along with Harpring's one certainly's a good thing for tha Jazz too if a good situation become available by midseason tardeline.

With harpring that is almost $12mil. Throw in Fes and it is $12.5mil.

I want Fes to stay with us. Dude has game, dude's tough, dude's big; he just has to turn the mental corner, and I think he will playing behink Okur when Boozer's gone.

This is great news, if Korver has a better season then we benefit, if he doesn't we can package and trade his expiring (along with harpring).

All this means is Korver wants to play the FA market next season instead of this season. It's not like he's signing an extension (nor do I want him to).

There are far more suitors next summer than there are free agents and all that available money is going to go somewhere. I think the only reason Boozer opts out now is his fear that one more injury-shortened season will nix any chance he has of a 5-year deal.

That I think is going to be the nail in the Jazz/Boozer coffin.

With Kyle opting in, the Jazz would need to get their guys to sign for a combined $16 Mill. Boozer is going to command that himself. We could maybe get Paul Millsap for $6, Memo for $10, but even that will be hard. Honestly at this point, KOC's poor contract managment has left me thinking that we just focus on keeping Paul and just become a very different team from what we were.

I don't think that KOC has poor contract management. They probably didn't think that Milsap was going to become a $7-10mil per year kind of guy after two years. They don't have to pay the luxury tax day one. They have time to move people. KOC knew what he was getting himself into at the time. He isn't that dumb.

I'm willing to reserve judgment on KOC until the summer's over.

IMO, The jazz are ****. We are going to be locked in on another frustratingly mediocre season because of this. This puts Booz more or less in control, and i know that bastard will opt in now leaving Okur and Sap out of the picture.

Good decision by Korver, he will have more options next year.......

Good thing for us as well, he's going to have a better season, hopefully, his wrist will be healed up by the time the season starts.......

I don't understand why people on this board are so eager to get rid of Boozer....... Without him we are a borderline .500 team....... With him we are a championship contender........

Millsap is not a starting PF for a contender in the NBA....... If some team is dumb enough to give him starter's money, let him go, wish him well, and watch that team regret their decision.......
