Okur Posturing for Extension

Post#1 » by StocktonShorts » Tue Jun 30, 2009 10:33 pm

I really think Okur's camp has been posturing for an extension. There's not much of a market out there for his services and I think his agent knows it. I haven't heard of a single team mentioning Okur as a possible target. Maybe every team assumes the Jazz are keeping him... or maybe no one wants to pay more than Mid-Level Exception for a 30-yeard old jump-shooting center.

I think if he opts out he gets no better than MLE. I think his agent knows that and the Jazz know that. My guess is the Jazz are playing hardball a bit with his agent and that's why they didn't come away with a deal at the first meeting this afternoon.

My guess is that eventually they end up with an extension, perhaps as early as today.

I'm certainly in a better mood now. Extension can be talked later without all these issues in the middle.

Actually I'm leaning towards it did work. Everyone was so sure Okur was opting out, my guess is they(the Jazz and Okur) came to some tentitive agreement for an extension and in the new few months they'll sign it.

Yeah, the jazz called his bluff. The trib: Had he opted out, Okur could not be sure that the Jazz would make as much of a push to re-sign him in the wake of Boozer's decision.

That's most probably the case and I'd be glad if Okur sings an extension with the Jazz.
