I'm thinking with Boozer, Okur, Korver, and Harpring all coming off the books next year, if we could find a way to move AK for an expiring we could end up with cap room next year. Of course we wouldn't be attractive to the big free agents, but, I think we'd be in a pretty good place to pick and choose from that 2nd tier.

Sure, we can also go from playoffs to the first overall draft pick.

The only thing worse than being a lottery team is being a mediocre first round exit team, which is exactly what the Jazz will be this season unless KOC makes a move.

The Jazz have 34 million dollars in expiring contracts now this season. 12.5 for Booze, 9 for Memo, 6.5 for Matty, 5.1 for Korver and 1.0 for Fes.

If the Jazz aren't absolute front runners to get out of the Western Conference, put a couple of these contracts together and get some help for the future.

Ballsy move. One that I dont think KOC will make, unless he gets some pressure from Greg Miller. It'll be interesting to see how this offseason pans out under his supervision.

For the future or even for a playoff push. Having $34M in expiring contracts is a pretty good situation to be in.

Agreed, but only if you can convince free agents to come play in Utah. Remember we had to overpay both Memo and Boozer to get them here the first time.

I'm not talking about free agents. I'm talking about midseason trades.

Unlike most of you I am not all doom and gloom. This is still avery good team when healthy. The team took a beating both physically and mentally last year that is why they fell apart. Boozer, Deron, and AK all played a lot more than usual with their national teams. Brevin Knight was an absolute disaster at backup PG as well.

This year, none of those problems will be there. Three guys are playing in Las Vegas for that summer USA stuff, but that's not much and wont take the same toll as traveling to China did.

Carlos Boozer is still a very good player, a player capable of getting 20-20 in the playoffs. Deron Williams is still a very good player. Barring another run of injuries this team should be competitve in the west again. Will they win a title? Hell No! But they could still win their division and make it as far as the WCF. They match up well against everyone in the west but SA and LAL.

The expiring contracts just make things a lot more interesting. They give the Jazz an out if this team does come crashing down but it also gives other teams an out. Lets say there are two teams(one with a little cap room) and they have a deal but someone needs an expiring contract. The Jazz have the option to broker a deal like that and get cap. They could also ship off two expirings for a longer contract but to a team with cap room. For instance they could trade Booz and Harpring for Prince. These are probably some poor examples but my point is, the Jazz have a buttload of options right now and they have them until Feburary of 2010.

I am most definitely not doom and gloom. In fact, I feel 100% better about this team right now than I did yesterday. Let's see if we can make something happen via trades or free agency, but at least now I know were not getting dumped for nothing at all.

May be we're just a shooter, a real backup PG and a little spark from big guys to become a threat for DEN, SA, LAL. A healthy Korver with a little bit bettered Miles finally could provide the shooting; it doesn't sound crazt at all to expect a bit of a spark from Koufos/Fesenko playing real rotation minutes; and Maynor seems a capable college senior that probably could be contributing with competitive minutes by mid season. Why just couldn't it happen?
And in top of that, all of a sudden Jazz have a huge amount of expiring money, so I think trade doors will be open for them, be it by midseason tardeline or 2010 free agency.
I'm ok with all of it.

It's just I can't stand Boozer.
Anyway, I really hope pu$$yman make me eat my crap and have standout season and playoffs.

I'm with Rednecks. With all the opt-ins (and hopefully keeping Sap) the Jazz have a good team if they stand pat, and the potential to balance out their roster into a great team if the right trade presents itself.

The problem with this team is too much talent at the 4. If they can trade one of those for a legitimate 2, this team could be back in the conference finals or better.

Deron Williams helps sell utah to players that want to have a chance to win a title. Because the players know just how good he is.should be interesting to see what we do this year both on the court and off(trade wise)

Jazz management have said all along that they would be willing to go into the luxery tax temporarily if it meant having a championship team. I assumed that they meant that they would pay the players on that championship team, but maybe they meant it indirectly. Maybe they plan to match whatever offer Millsap gets and pay the luxery tax this season, in order to build that championship team. I don't think they are trying to trade any of our expirings. Every team in the NBA has been trying to clear cap space for 2010 and now the Jazz just did. Follow me on this. Next year after the contracts of Booz, Memo, Korver, and Harp, come off the books the Jazz will still have D-Will and Millsap, they will have a high draft pick (Knicks), they will have enough money to land a very high quality free agent, and at that point AK will have an expiring contract wich they could then tradeto a team trying to clear salary for another high quality player. That scenario sounds pretty good to me.

We are already a better team than Denver for sure, and SA also unless Duncan comes back strong and Manu is completely healthy.

In one respect the Jazz got lucky- in that it is difficult to receive equal value back in a trade from any player approaching a player's option year: there is no value as an expiring and no assuredness the player exorcizes the option. Now the Jazz are a team stacked with expiring contracts, and most of those players happen to be very good. What has always been a contradiction though is that crappy, overpaid players in the final year of their contract seem to have grater trade value than good players in the final year of their contract. The rational goes something like "nobody wants to trade for Boozer, it would just be a one year rental." Okay; but he is still expiring! ...and would help a team out in the mean time.
