The Thunder will offer him 10 mil per. The Jazz just cannot do that. I also believe that he is not worth that. WE MUST TRADE ANDREI

i would be shocked if the thunder offer $10 million to millsap, there really is no reason to. if utah plans on paying the luxury tax on, say, an $8 million dollar offer i don't see why they wouldn't pay $10 million.

i think the thunder will offer 5 years $42-45 million, which is still a tough decision for utah.

Who is first on the Thunder's list: Millsap or David Lee?

sam presti is notoriously tight lipped but most people think they're more interested in millsap because he's more useful defensively.

I would think that paying anything more would handicap the Thunder when it comes time to give raises to the rest of their young players.

it's possible, but okc'will have zero salary committed when durant / green become free agents (westbrook the next year). i think they can afford $8-$10 million on the right player, though i don't think millsap is worth much more than $8m. they know they won't attract the big names in 2010 so going for a young guy like millsap who can grow with the rest of the team is probably what they're aiming for.

this makes no sense though. they will match $9 million but not $10 or $11 million? what's an extra couple million if you're already paying out a ton of tax to keep him?

An extra couple million is actually an extra four million, that's what. :)

Well you gotta draw a line somewhere in business. I would match up to $10M if were the Jazz, and I think he'll become an all-star, I mean hell he averaged 16.0ppg 10.3rpg 2.4apg 1.2spg and 1.0bpg as a starter this year in just over 34mpg. That's better than some of the Eastern All-Stars did this year.

We played this game with CJ last year. I had the max contract that the Jazz would match at 3/10

It ended up being basically 3/11.7

Its almost like Presti was reading the boards. The Jazz, from everything I've been able to gather, were extremely close to letting CJ walk. So what's an extra 1m a year, you say? It can mean everything.

Let's say that the Jazz have Paul's value pegged at 8.2 per. That is the ideal amount the Jazz would like to offer him and have him match, the place where reward meets value. This isn't the cap that Jazz would go to, but the further they travel from that point, the more the risk/reward scenario jumps out of whack. This means that, for example, they MAY be willing to match a contract worth 9.5 per, but might draw the line at 10. You have to draw that line somewhere, otherwise you can keep "well, it's only X amount more" talking yourself all the way into Rashard Lewis territory. I think the Jazz will match all the way up to 10m, myself. Any more than that and they will let him go.

if the jazz match up to $10m then i can't see the thunder acquiring millsap unless presti's fairly confident that he'll develop into an all-star caliber pf.

The knicks gave lee an opening offer of 4 yrs 32 mil. So that is a starting market.

That sucks. I was hoping that would be a final offer, not an initial offer. Seems like 10 million dollars is getting more and more realistic.

FYI from OKC:

Early discussions between the Thunder and Millsap's representatives have been described as positive, but there is nothing concrete between the two sides. A follow-up conversation could take place later Wednesday.
