No way. There is 0 chance he lands in Portland.

Why would he want to be a backup somewhere else? Oh well, I guess if he doesn't get an offer to start then it's possible. But Portland is stupid if they don't try for LO. Maybe they don't need him so much, but it makes LA worse and could make Portland the team to beat in the West. Dead serious, they had a great season last year and split LA and beat SA 3-1.

All Portland is doing is making us use more dough to retain Millsap. They don't want him, and Millsap will gladly use the leverage to get himself a better deal.

Portland is just trying to **** us over, and if they give him 8 million a year, they would have used all their cap space on 11 players..

It could be a play to force another trade, but if Millsap ends up in Portland then no problem.

Please, do not much! No need to overpay! Just leave it to Portland. We overpayed for a lot of players. Do not make another mistake! Portland will be screwed if the offer something about 10 million....

The only way I match Millsap contract is if the jazz work out a trade with Boozer going to another team with the jazz saving at least 5 million. I really don't think the jazz can be over Luxury tax. Not only will the Jazz have to pay the luxury tax ,they would also miss out on the money distributed to teams under Luxury tax.

Cause he'll get freaking paid! He's young, he can worry about PT later. Chances are Portland would end up trading him fairly soon anyway. They're just using their leverage to acquire a quality asset and weaken a division rival becuase they can.

If a player is getting a big contract offer in this market, he needs to take it, regardless of whether he starts or not. That goes for any player, not just Millsap.

This move could be a win/win for Portland.

There is speculation that, given our cap space, we could aid you guys in dumping Boozer, bringing us back a bigger piece for less.

So the situation probably looks something like this...

Pritchard offers you guys to help shed Boozer's contract to, say, Charlotte JUST AS AN EXAMPLE. Charlotte would send, AGAIN EXAMPLE - Gerald Wallace to Portland, and we would likely send you guys a small contract and traded player exception to match the difference. Then you guys could resign Milsap on your own.

Failing that, Portland has quite possibly the ideal backup fall into their laps which in turn leads to one or two trades following to balance out the roster.

It all just depends on how Utah wants to play it...

They are already over the luxury tax without Millsap, so it doesn't really matter at this point. Your post is spot on though, trading Boozer and resigning Millsap is exactly what the FO should be doing this summer, although they're going to be spending a lot of money next year no matter what happens.

The same reason why Hedo turned down a finals team in Orlando, and the team with the 2nd best record in the West for a lottery team who's best player is probably gone after next year: $$$$. That comes first. Always and forever. Looks like OKC won't make an offer and he's a backup in Utah too, so why not take the money?

I love the move. It seems win-win to me.

Why do Blazer's fans assume they should or would be included in any trade for Boozer. Utah could send him to Washington or Detroit and get great value in return without Portland's help. Utah could save 5 million trading for Butler or 2 million for Hamilton. Utah's ownership has pledged to pay the luxury tax in order to keep Utah as competitive as possible next year; it's not like they CAN'T resign Millsap unless they shed Boozer's contract, they just might be hesitant to do so.

Also some of our insiders are saying that we may offer a signing bonus and frontload the contract so that the first year would come in between 10 and 11 million which would really force your guys' hand in trading boozer. I'd prefer if we worked a nice 3 way that netted the Blazers a guy like Gerald Wallace, Caron Butler etc. If that didn't work then I'd probably prefer Millsap over Hinrich though in the other proposed Boozer trade and just keep him as a backup and then worrying about making trades after that. I think in the end this will probably end up helping both of us cause this is going to force you guys to likely move Boozer now and keep Millsap and we'll get a guy that we covet from the third team involved.

Blazer fans assume that your owner is not going to want to pay Boozer $12M this year and pay Millsap $18M this year ($9M salary and $9M signing bonus) and pay roughly $13M in luxury cap money (if I understand your cap situation correctly). That would be $43M for 1 position on the floor this season. It's not that your GM can't do it, but as you say he would be hesitant to do it. Trading Boozer to another team that sends equal salaries back still costs you the $43M, but at least it would be to cover 2 different positions. We still make the assumption that your owner might now want to do that. You have options, just not good options. They include 1) salary dump of Boozer 2) $43M for Boozer or Hamilton and Millsap this year 3) Not match an offer for Millsap.

Pritchard is trying to keep his spirits afloat by clinging to this lifesaver -- the Blazers are a young team that won 54 games and has $7.7 million in cap space. It is why some people inside the Blazers walls are suggesting that it is more and more probable that Pritchard either stays put with this roster or makes only a minor move, along the lines of acquiring a role player rather than a starter.

The "why would sap wanna come off the bench" argument is moot. if he gets matched, you think he's gonna start ahead of carlos "me me" boozer?

From what I've read, if the Blazer renounce the rights to Koponen and Freeland, they'll be able to offer a contract starting at 8.9 million dollars. If the Jazz keep Sap and re-sign Price for about 1.5 million, the Jazz would be looking at an 84 million payroll and would be about 14 million into luxury tax territory.
I'm just not sure if the Blazers are gonna be offering 9 million dollars to a guy that will certainly be a backup on their team.
I really hope the Jazz find some way to screw Portland on this one. It'd be nice if they waited the 10 days and matched it at the end, so the Blazers couldn't sign anyone else while waiting for it and were left without Sap.
