What about Boozer to Charlotte for Okafor, Bell, future 1st?

My concern for Jazz fans in any Boozer trade scenario was the loss of Boozer's rebounding. Jazz were #19 in the league in rebounding last year and replacing Boozer with a lesser rebounder could drop the Jazz to the worst rebounding team in the league.

What about Okafor, Bell (expiring contract), and a future 1st rounder for Boozer? Jazz get an equivalent rebounder, a better shot blocker but a worse offensive player.

Depth chart might looking something like this:

C - Okur/Collins
PF - Okafor/Kirilenko
SF - Kirilenko/Miles/Korver
SG - Brewer/Bell/Korver
PG - Williams/Knight

The only thing missing is the gun to the head of the Charlotte GM.

Glad to see you like it. The first rounder would have protections of course but I think the basics of a Boozer/Okafor swap make alot of sense for both teams.

Why would we do this when Cleveland is begging for us to take Lebron off their hands?

Charlotte would probably only consider this if the future first in question came from the Jazz via the Knicks pick next year. They certainly wouldn't be tossing one into the deal. If it were Boozer and the NY 1st for Okafor, that would be the only way that Charlotte would consider it. Would any of you pull the trigger if that were the deal?

I would. Bird in the hand v. two in the bush and all that.

Why is that? If you think Okafor >= Boozer then either you are a Bobcats fan too high on Okafor or a Jazz fan too fed up with Boozer.

In a straitght up trade I'd take Boozer over Okafor any day of the week so would most GMs in the league I suspect. 20/10 is better than 13/10/2.

Given the Jazz's situation it might be possible the Bobcats could swing this without the pick but the pick certainly doesnt make it horrible for the Bobcats.

I don't really see why this is such a bad deal for Charlotte. Just because we, the fans, don't really like Boozer anymore and Charlotte loves Okafor, Boozer statistically is more productive. I think that Charlotte would have to seriously consider this trade. A straight trade with Boozer and Okafor would work and save a little cash for the Jazz but I think that we would have to add something else to make it more appealing since Boozer might jet after this year. Maybe Boozer and Korver for Okafor and Bell.

No freaking way CHA gives up Okafor for Boozer especially when Utah tries desperately to get rid of him.

Let's say Charlotte agrees to this because they really want to be rid of Okafor's long contract... it still doesn't help the Jazz's cap.

Perhaps you're suggesting the Jazz let Millsap go, put Memo at the 4 and have Okafor at 5? There are worse ideas out there...

This is the trade idea that is probably the best and most even. The crazy thing about NBA trades is the way that the same damn player's "value" can fluxuate so much based upon perception. Boozer is still a top 20 NBA player. He is just a season away from being named 3rd team All-NBA. He is probably the best rebounding PF in the league, and among the top 3 offensive PFs in the game. He is an amazing player. There is no question that he is better than Okafor, and yet people are laughing at how much we are getting for him in this trade. Objectively, this is a solid trade for both teams. In reality, MJ probably laughs at KOC and hangs up the phone. Its a funny world we live in.

This is absolutely not a fair trade for both teams.

You know what happens to the Bobcats if they ship out Okafor and Bell? Diop and Henderson (a rookie) become starters, and once again, the Bobcats are left without a second shooting guard on the roster. In addition, the Bobcats are giving up a future first? Get real.

While Boozer is a better player than Okafor, raw stats (points and rebounds) do not do Okafor enough justice, and in reality, do Boozer too much justice. I looked at Boozer's opponent counterpart PERs, and it was alarming -- at both the power forward and center positions, Boozer's counterpart had a higher PER than he did this season.

And actually, Okafor had a higher PER this season than Boozer did. That should be where Boozer separates himself from Okafor, since the extent to which PER is useful is offense + rebounding. Boozer's probably would have been higher if he was healthy, but that brings up another point -- Okafor hasn't missed a game in two+ seasons, while Boozer is coming off an injury-riddled season.

On the Bobcats side, they would need insurance that Boozer will resign before they consider a Boozer for Okafor, Diaw, or Wallace swap.

But, in my opinion, a Okafor/Bell/future 1st is too much for Carlos Boozer. Especially when the Bobcats have the leverage in this situation.
