Utah saves a little money (at least according to the trade checker) and both contracts are expiring. If Tmac is able to give anything near his normal contribution this year thats just a bonus. Scola would fit perfectly here, in my opinion.

Houston now needs a low post scorer with Yao gone, and lettin Tmac go (who will most likely only play half the season, at best) is not much of a risk.

What do you guys think? Flame away....

I love Scola and would do this in a heartbeat, he's a hustle guy that wins games with the intangibles a la millsap, but theres no way houston would do this.

Houston would want Jazz to add NYK pick to do this but if not required to add it yes as Jazz need to do something

There is no way that the Rockets could ask for that pick.

I dont think a pick is needed, because there are risks for both teams here. Utah is getting the highest paid player in the league, who probably wont play much this year, if at all. While Houston is getting AKs deal, and a guy in Boozer who could, and most likely would, leave at the end of the season.

Both teams are also in jams....Utah needs to shave as much money as possible, yet stay competitive....while Houston is now in dire need of a post scorer with Yao gone.

I think that this trade may or may not make sense for the teams to do, but because of those variables the value is fair.

Simple--McGrady is out until February. And even if he does come back earlier as some have speculated based on a T-Mac blog entry, he isn't going to be the player he usually is. So you are trading AK and Boozer for Scola and a couple of months of a healing McGrady.

But we also get out of AK's deal, as well as save overall money in the process.

I agree, value for value it isnt equal...but based on the money situation we are in, I dont know if its quite that bad.

This is an intriguing deal and I would do it if I were the Jazz. I could also see it being appealing to Houston but I'm not sure where they're at now (with Yao's injury) and I wonder what they think of Boozer/AK.

Houston has seen what Boozer can do, see 2007 playoffs, so I think they'd be intrigued by him. AK is also a nice prospect for them because they've lost artest and need another defensive presence.

Houston turned down a similar trade already because the Jazz refused to include the NYK pick in the deal. I don't think they would go for it, though if I was Houston I would jump on this **** right **** now. I don't like it for the Jazz, though. Scola is nice, but not worth giving up AK for a salary dump and the Jazz still don't get under the luxury tax for this year.

Was it Houston that turned it down? I thought that it was Utah that turned it down.

Insurance will pay for Tmac's salary until he comes back, if he even does. Even if he comes back in February the savings is almost 11 million dollars. Combine that with the dumping of AK's salary and the jazz can easily match Milsap's offer. Scola is also a great replacement player. It's still not worth the NY pick, though.

In any case the insurance won't pay the luxury tax.

But if you save 11 million from insurance, plus the few million in the difference of the total salaries that youre giving up, it makes up for the overall dollars you are spending in the luxury tax.

The jazz nixed it because the rockets apparently asked for the NY pick. Like I said, it's not worth the pick. And luxury tax is not a concern when insurance is paying for Tmac's contract; he makes nearly as much as Boozer and AK combined.

Rockets fan here... the rockets are not interested in another injury prone player like Carlos Boozer... The Rockets are looking to get rid of Battier more than Scola... Rockets fans and Houston media thinks Ariza is a younger version of Battier..
