Kinda quiet and every topic seems the same old thing so figured it's time for a little local bonding experience.
Now that we Utahns are free to explore our great state's mixological treasures with out major financial investment where do you all like to tip a few back? I am out of the megaclub loop these days but my mom, who is a food distributer rep, has been inside the new Port O' Call and said it is unbelievable. She didn't even know who or what they were when she was describing this place (in what she as a long time Sandy resident called Rose Park) in the Warehouse district was like.
My favorite places are the Tap Room in Sugarhouse and O'Shucks in PC and Jeremy Ranch (which has a restaurant license but looks bar like). There is a new place under Town Lift in PC with an Irish name which is a nice neighborhood style bar. I forgot the name. Downtown I like Cheers to You and Junior's (I used to live above the old Juniors and was a fill in bartender a few times). So as you can tell I am a belly up to the bar type, not a mega club type, but would like to hear what others like in town whether it be a raging party or a place with a friendly barkeep who makes good conversation.

I didn't even know there was a new Port. Someone let me know if the fooseball is there. Might be worth checking out someday.
I don't like going to Rose Park much though. Not even the Blue Iguana can pull me there anymore.
I used to like Plaza Billiards, back in the day. Pretty sleezy spot, but, stuff was cheap and folks kept to themselves.
The only bar I've ever been to that I liked better than the Port was near Orlando. It was a nice little spot right on the beach, The Ocean Decker, I believe it was called. Nice place ot have a beer if you're ever out that direction.

I think the new Port is all upstairs style and no downstairs style. I regret this, but it sounds like a place the Jazz players will like. And I don't really consider down town N-Temple area Rose Park quite yet. Redwood Road and N. Temple is. That whole stretch is going to be the next Sugarhouse. It will get pricier as it gentrifies.

Oh and the Red Iguana is on North Temple. Blue Iguana is at Aroow Press Square across from the Salt Palace.

It's been a long time since I did any serious quaffing in S.L. Back in the day, Port O and the Zephyr were two of my fave spots. Two places where you could go and feel like you were, well, not in Utah. Burt's Tiki Lounge is pretty cool, or at least it was. And when I just wanted to relax, Green Street. But the last time I went to Green Street it was quite a bit louder, younger and more meat marketish. Not that that's bad.
Good thread, I'll be interested to see what the current hot spots are so I can check them out when I'm visiting. Right after I grab a smothered burrito at La Puente.

I guess the new port o call is Gracie's, but its not in Rose Park just downtown like on 300 West Temple. I guess the whole club scene is right there in the Pierpont district, the Jazz players have been mostly going to a new club called the Sandbar, its probably the busiest club very packed thursdays, fridays and saturdays. One of my best buddies bounces at Lumpy's sometimes ill go there, its alright. If you wanna get action The Hotel is always packed with half naked drunk girls! Club Bliss which used to be The Bay and then Vortex is only ok on Wednesdays! Greenstreet nobody goes to anymore! for clubs i usually will go to the Hotel or Sandbar or even Lumpys, if i want more of a bar feel ill go to Piper Down, Monks or The Bayou. I frequent the clubs and bars quite a bit, right now the hot spot is the Sandbar.

Hah, Burt's Tiki Lounge. I went there a couple times. Some friends were performing. I mostly hung out in the attic with the pool table though. Felt a lot like a house party. A good thing. Although, I always got the feeling the whole place was gonna collapse in a pile of wreckage.
I liked the Zephyr too. Saw a few shows there. Was a bit hard to relax for me though. I think the seating was uncomfortable.
Never been to Green Street. Used to live walking distance. Always ended up at the Pub instead. Get the Mexican dip if you make it to the pub, it's fantastic. Oh, I think it's the beef dip with spicy au jus now. F-ing PC crap.
Oh, and I was definitely a downstars Port guy. That or the roof. Mostly downstairs though.

DV8 was a show venue, Burt's is the Punk rock place, although it's gone a bit mainstream, but still no top 40

I didn't realize Monk's was still going. Piper Down is neat but freaking overpriced. Not entirely their fault, Smithwicks has to be bought from the state.

Zephyr was great but they didn't reopen. That seems to happen where a place is slated for redevelopment, closed down and the redevelopment falls through.
I live in Summit County now, but because I live in Summit County I can't afford to hit the bars. I heard Downstairs was cool.

The only time I go to Park City is for shows the only places ive been there is Star Bar, Harry O's and Suede when it was still there! Yeah Piper Down and Bayou are both expensive places, I prefer buying pitchers of beer but places like Sandbar, The Hotel and Bliss dont serve pitchers, but they do have hotties

I hate the places where you stand in such a long line you could drink your drink in line. Eff that, I am not beautiful and need time to chat up the ladies to get with them. I wish Suede was still there. I could walk there. The only bar at Kimble Junction is Molly Blooms which is in a Hotel so I imagine it's expensive. I may have bit off more than I can chew living up here, so if anyone knows who is hiring part time in Summit County let me know!

I manage to get to OShucks in Pinebrook every once in a while up here in PC. I don't even bother with Old Town unless there is some good music. Red Rocks in Kimball is ok, but it's more restaraunt style... I do want to try out Maxwell's one of these days.
As far as SLC, it's usually an after work drink at Uinta Brewing or maybe Fiddlers. I did like Twilight back in the day.

I went to a Bar Named Sue. Their bar top has sports cards under the glass. I sat at the bar and had Delaney Rudd's card in front of me. I shed a tear in appreciation.
But seriously, that place rocks. Everything is free but the booze and food. Pool, Metal darts, jukebox all free.
Golden Tee isn't... but eff that when you have pool and metal darts. And seats that have your screen name right there.

You should all go there once and look for the Delaney Rudd seat. It's in front of the left taps. You can sit there and be like, holy crap, my ass is in the same spot that DelaneyRudd's ass once sat.

If you havent' been to BNS (Bar Named Sues) your missing out. Little hole in the walll on 39th and Highland, if you go on Mon-Wed its pretty chill... but if you go Thurs-Sat it'll be shoulder to shoulder. 2 dollar PBR tall boys, 5 dollar po' boys special (shot of Jim Beam and a 32oz Natty light) you can get messed up for 15 bucks. But now that we have the freedom to roam from bar to bar, that's really where it's at... find a bar, have a few drinks scope out the crowd and if it gets lame try something else.... no more Membership fees Yay!

I used to love the downtown hookah lounge that was above the house of Kabob. But now they changed it up and it sucks.
Johnny's is a pretty cool little dive bar and they serve an ounce and a half and their prices are good so you get more bang for your buck.
Poplar Street was okay when it first opened but it's gotten extremely crowded over the past little while.
I like the dollar beer bar in sugar house, it's really close to where I live and you can't beat a dollar beer, and they have the best jukebox in SLC.

The tap room is okay. I know a kid that works there. Well I guess I don't know him all that well but I've hung out with him a couple of times. He's a good guy.
You are talking about the tap room across from the liquor store correct?

Travis is the bartender that I know who worked there, not sure if he still works there though.
