So, how much do you guys think Brewer is worth? And how much do you think he's actually gonna get?

I still don't think it's too late to see if we can swing that deal for Chase Budinger. We may have to include a pick but I think it's worth it to get this guy.

He's a stud.

We badly needed a backup PG, and I think Maynor's a good one (in fact he was high in my wish list for the 20th) . However, I have to admit that, deep in my mind and guts, there was a big light with "Budinger" wrote all over it while Jazz clock were ticking... I'd love if somehow the Jazz trade for him.
I'm not sure Brewer's the guy I'd trade though...

The Jazz cant afford to trade Brewer as he is one of their rare good defenders. He has improved every year and if he improves his jump shot then he can reach allstar level. He works hard, is not injury prone, and gets along with all the Jazz players, thus Jazz should keep him. When he becomes a free agent, I think he gets slightly less than Milsap. By then, Ak-47's contract will be gone. Miles is the one that needs to get traded along with Boozer, as they are both over-paid and the Jazz have other less costly players that play their positions. AK-47 is untradeable bc of his contract.

I wonder if the plan will be to wait and see what the market is for him as a RFA. The qualifying offer is $3,779,571--surely he will sign for more than that but will people be making huge offers for the Ronnie Brewers of the league when they have been saving their money for the superstars?

Has there been any word of discussions on an extention? I'm not sure when the deadline would be for that.

Maybe, but that carries a risk: all it takes is ONE team out there over-valuing your guy. Look at the Millsap situation. I wonder if the Jazz couldn't have locked Paul up last year with a $6M/year extension. Maybe they weren't convinced yet they wanted to keep him or weren't sure how things were going to play out with all the opt-ins (though given what did happen I'm trying to envision what circumstances would make them regret having signed Millsap to such a contract).

FWIW I think the extension deadline for Brewer is late October.

Hard to tell, I think Brewer is still gonna get better, I need to see how he does this year before I set a price on him. I want him to start getting some damn starter minutes too.

I think it's a bad idea to let him become a RFA. There's a ton of teams with cap space and most of them will strike out on the big FA. There'll be a team who will overpay to pry him away from the Jazz. My guess is he'll get what Ariza got, a 5 year 34 million contract.

A lot of FAs are going to get overpaid next year. It all depends if Lebron stays in Cleveland and New York panics. Then Amare or Bosh become NYs max guys then Toronto or Phoenix start looking for guys like Brewer.

I think $6 million is about his ceiling, $7 is over-paying but I wouldn't be opposed to going that high - there are much worse players making that kind of money. I see about 4 years and 24 million being an appropriate pay-day for Brewer and the Jazz.

Let's see- good defender, good finisher, moves well in our offense. Horrific 3-pt shooter. In a SG that should add up to be about 4-5 mil a year. But we should let him be restricted. I really don't think anyone will be looking to break the bank on a shooting guard who doesn't shoot well.

Of course, he's not just a shooting guard. He's going to be one of the guys picking up Matt's minutes this year at small forward.

I think he's worth 6-7 because he contributes an all-around game (minus shooting), and you need glue guys like that on a team. He's an amazing athelete, and he does a lot of dirty work.

But you only have so much money and you want you glue guys at about 4 mil per. Otherwise you only really get to keep one.

Pretty simple if you ask me...whatever it takes to keep him here.

No. He is more replaceable position wise. If a Raja Bell can be pulled out of thin air easier than a Millsap. If he does become a free agent he will get overpaid. My next offseason lots of teams were planning to sign someone, anyone; and the economy will be in full recovery by that time. And did we mention the NBA just got a brand new owner who will probably be free wheeling and dealing and that could cause some domino effect.

I'm a huge fan of Brewer, I think he is one of the most if not the most under-rated player on the team. You can't let him walk for free, if you cant afford him than trade him but you cant let him walk.
