What are your impressions so far? Worth a number 20 draft pick? Surprises that he brings, things he needs to work on?

What are your opinions?

Through 7 games: 8.1/4.4/1.8/1.8 on 32% FG and 40% 3Pt at 21 MPG.

He seems to be a little trigger happy and he doesn't have a consistent shot. But I love the fact that he can penetrate and either draw a foul or find the open man. Right now, it seems like he was definitely worth the 20th pick. From what I've seen of him, he needs to work on his shooting and add more muscle. He's a lot better than I expected he would be right now though.

Yup. That is basically it.

Siler wrote in his newest blog that he thinks the Jazz will go with Maynor as their backup PG to start the season. Personally I believe that Ronnie Price deserves a chance to play. Either way, Ronnie P has to get time somewhere. He does too many positive things.

He has alot of confidence in his game that hopefully Sloan wont ruin that. I wish he would look for his shot less as he tries to make the big play too often probably because that is what he has needed to do his entire basketball life. Top 10 caliber pick taken by the Jazz at 20. Good pick as he fell into Jazz laps. With that said, his time should be limited to spiltting it with Price with Price also getting time at SG. Price's energy is needed off the Jazz bench.

I'm with you there. I used to think otherwise, but I think time has proven Jerry to be right and all the whiners about him "ruining" young players to be wrong.

He can run a team, and seems to be going inmediattely after he steps on court, which is a very good thing when you backup Deron Williams....

He had some turnovers @Blazers in the fourth, but he also got key plays when things went a little bit hard in front of an hostile crwod... I think that's something you can't ignore about Maynor's: it seems he has some thoughness and confidence

Too early yet to tell, but I like what I'm seeing. Great pick at 20th. Right now Maynor belongs in the same breath with Flynn, Curry, Holiday and other young points out there, probably with the only exception of Jennings who's been showing some signs of real brilliance IMHO.

He seems ready and he is a better pg than Price.

Mayner has been great for the #20 Pick. Let's not give up on Ronnie Price. He's been injured. The Jazz Need him to play Shooting Guard as well as point. seems funny the Jazz Kept Harris, who is Injured. I gues He can Play both guard positions and small forward1

Maynor has been great. He is by far the best backup PG we have had since the Lopez/Williams combo. His only negatives are his shooting (which is on a bad streak right now and can be improved) and his ball security. He reminds me a lot of a slower George Hill with his ability to get to the line. When he gets his groove shooting the ball and gets that floater dropping he will be one of the better backup PGs in the league. His defense, ball security and running the O will keep him on the floor, otherwise Ronnie P is back in the fold.

I'm glad we picked him up. He looks good right away, but with the mentor he has here in Utah, I think he will really turn into something special over the years as he backs up Deron. I love Ronnie and what he brings, and I think there isn't a nicer guy on the court, but he is not a better PG than Maynor. Hopefully he can find a spot at the 2 spot...

I like how he gets into the paint under control.

I was saying the exact same thing yesterday. Whatever works as long as we can make plays when Deron's not on the court

He actually reminds me a lot of D-Will in some ways. You'll remember that Deron's shooting was pretty horrific in his rookie season. He shot 42% for the year, iirc. Rookie PGs often struggle with their shooting, as all rookies do, but the good ones usually make a big jump in year 2. What's funny is that in John Hollinger's rookie ranking system, Maynor finished within .2 points of where Deron was ranked.

It appears that Maynor has an NBA shot (the floater), an NBA handle, NBA vision and passing and NBA composure (the stage doesn't appear to be too big for him). He looks like he'll be a player in the league, no matter how good he ends up. But I see enough in him to be optimistic that he could be a star. Very happy with the pick, as I was at the time. People don't realize how much our backup PG play hurt us last year.

That's right. Backup PG hurted us a lot and it was one glaring need to address coming into this offseason. Now I'm really encouraged about Maynor's game. I don't want to be silly about it, but I really see flashbacks of Williams rookie season too...

When you look at where we have been picking as of late you should expect a solid rotation player. I think both Maynor and Kosta will be that at worst, and at best above average and possible starting quality in Kosta's case.
