Korver to have surgery

Post#1 » by Xanthis » Fri Oct 23, 2009 5:35 pm

David just reported on 1320 that Korver will be having surgery on his knee and no timetable has been set. Maybe its time to look at Ime Udoka for a short term fix. Also probably have to keep Wes.

This season is starting off badly. Two of our wings that can actually shoot the ball are out injured, we don't have a competent backup big man in Koufos or Fesenko. I hope the Jazz pull a rabbit out of their hat or we are going to wind up fighting for the last playoff spot this year. I would assume Korver is out until January at the earliest.

Wo, just awesome. Another important piece injured to begin the season. Udoka is almost a must now with CJ and Korver out. Looks like Ronnie Price just got an upgrade on my fantasy chart...

As far as injuries go, things are not looking good so far.
This, IMO, is what our rotation will look like at the beggining of the season:

Deron(37)/Maynor(11)
Brewer(34)/Price(14)
AK(30)/Sap(10)/Matthews(8)
Boozer(28)/Sap(20)
Memo(34)/Kosta or Fes(10)/Boozer(4)

Not that bad, but we definitely could bring in a shooter.

I think we shlould start Price at the off-guard, because we will need Kirilenko or Brewer in our second unit (lets think Brewer back is not going to be a problem....)

Our second lineup does not look good enough right now to compete with some second units out there... think Portland's Miller, Fernandez, Webster, Outlaw, Pryzbilla... think Lakers' Brown, Vujacic, Walton, Odom, Mbenga (dude had 7 block and several power plays disrupted yesterday agains the Nuggets Nene, Anderson, Martin, Anthony... and I think he made every mid range jumpshot they allowed him to take...)

It is a loss but not a huge loss as the Jazz are a deep team. It just means AK-47 and Price play more minutes and maybe matthews gets some time on the floor. I dont see the need to pickup a SF necessarily but maybe a guard that can shoot who may play some minutes. Mo Almond anyone? I would resign him as he just got cut.

Don't forget guys, Price is having Hamstring issues, and that is something that usually doesn't just go away quickly. This could get very ugly for the Jazz...

Mo Almond will never play with the Jazz again. As for AK getting more minutes, this is pretty obvious but also very depressing. We need to put some players out there who can shoot the damn ball. We are already one of the weakest outside shooting teams in the league and this just compounds it 10x. If we can't hit from outside, Boozer/Millsap won't be able to do anything down low. Team's will be able to collapse on us like they did before we got Korver. Deron is a stud and Memo can hit from outside, but that is basically it. We need consistent shooters on the floor.

Thank God that AK is still here. We should be getting our moneys worth out of AK and Millsap now. Maynor should see some good chunks of floor time now...how we manage to go from one of the deepest teams in the league to playing our backup pg as the starting 2 and our under sized rookie 3rd string pg as primary backup...

maybe we are being cursed for booing Fisher (NOTE: I cheered for Fisher and still love him as a player)

SCORING IS NOT THE JAZZ PROBLEM!!! Jazz are one of best scoring teams in league. Jazz are one of the weakest defensive teams teams in the league and forcing Sloan to play AK-47 more minutes is a good thing. In fact, Korver is an extremely over-rated shooter, as well as a bad defender. Jazz may have just improved by having AK-47 and Price take his minutes. Miles was a much bigger loss!

Yep, he'd be a good fit right now. I'd be disappointed if they didn't at least try to sign him.

You missed the part where I said OUTSIDE SHOOTING. Korver may be overrated, but defenses still have to respect his outside shot. Neither Miles or Korver would ever help on the defensive side anyway, so that's a wash. We still need OUTSIDE SHOOTING to be able to take pressure off our inside game and stretch defenses. If we don't have that, we will not be one of the best scoring teams in the league.

Yeap, you're right, remember Boozer's hamstring? :o
I hope Brewer's back is not a serious issue... but if it really was a locked up back then the Jazz are in a deeeeeeep hole right now... starting lineup would be something lilke Williams, Matthews, Kirilenko, Boozer, Okur... and second lineup would be depleted.... Maynor, Millsap, Koufos, Fesenko....

We'll see....

Wow between Harpring, Korver and Miles we have 16 mil worth of wings sitting on the bench.

Though both Miles and Korver should only miss first quarter of the season. The real problem is if anyone else gets hurt.

Matthews isn't a great outside shooter but he his better then AK or Brewer. He is probably more consistent than Price or Maynor too.

If we bring some else in - look for someone that with a only a partially guaranteed contract.
