Fesenko

Post#1 » by Jazzy13 » Fri Oct 30, 2009 2:16 am

I'm kind of surprised that no one has mentioned this yet, but Fesenko in his limited minutes looked great against Denver the other night. I just feel it makes our team so much better when we have a C with size clogging the lane. It didnt seem like we got killed in the post when he was in there. Even if he isnt blocking shots, he is a big body who can put a hand in someones face.

Just wanted to hear your guys thoughts.

I thought he lloked good and honestly I'm not sure why he doesn't plaay more....either he or Koufos should be getting more minutes.....Fes has always looked good for what he is(a very young C, trying to learn on the job) when he has been given minutes.....

I've been a bit of a Fes homer since we drafted him and I'm pretty bummed I didn't get to see how he played. Our defensive schemes are designed around a shotblocking center. That's one of the reasons our defense looks so bad. Why we haven't changed it I'm not sure. I'm all for Fesenko getting limited minutes.

I thought he got lost on defense a couple of times, but ended up getting lucky the Nuggets didn't score. I did like most of what I saw from him. I wouldn't mind him backing up Memo. We could use someone who actually tries to block some shots.

Fes need playing time and he can become a good contributor for a team lacking a real center, big bodies and toughness.

I have to agree with Schneiderjazz; for ex. one time Fes allowed Nene to blow right by him on the baseline but was bailed out when he traveled.

That said he has all the makings of a solid if not great center in this league. He just needs to commit and focus a little more.

Like Layden said about Mark Eaton, you cant teach size. Benching Boozer, Millsap, and Memo and starting AK-47 at PF and Fess at center might send a message as well as allow the Jazz to play decent D in the 1st quarter then just hope we can out score their second unit so we have a decent lead to hold on in the 4th quarter.

Although it's a nice thought, that kind of line-up will obviously never take the court. I do agree that Fes deserves more playing time (when was the last time a Jazz center slammed a ball down like he did the other night? Have we ever had a center do that?). That guy is big, and I can only hope that he starts getting broken in as a future starter. As much as I love having Memo spread the floor, you can't be a successful title contender and be as vulnerable in the paint as we are.

An Okur-Fesenko lineup would matchup nicely with the Lakers front court. Having Okur spread the floor doesn't benefit us so much when our PF settles for jumpers 9 times out of 10. We need to shake this team up a bit and have some pieces to move around.

I'd love to see a line-up at some point of Williams, CJ, AK, Memo, Fes. Solid defense without sacrificing offense, with CJ and AK slashing, outside shooting coming from D-Will, CJ, and Memo, and Fes clogging up the lanes.

I loved that slam, and I think Fesenko has the toughness to not take **** from players. Although he does seem to get a little lost/beat at times it seems largely from inexperience that will improve with in-game experience.

As far as Nene blowing by him, without traveling he might not have gotten by at all, so I don't think it's a fair barometer.

My biggest concern is the way he seems to fumble the ball a little bit, but so far it hasn't seemed to be too big of an issue

I'd love to see Fesenko stand up to KMart or someone similar. I always thought Millsap had some dog in him but I've been disappointed so far.

I completely agree that this is what should be done. Even if you only keep the lineup out there for 2-5 minutes it will still send a message to Booze and Millsap. It would be interesting to see Fes and Memo play together for a bit but it would only be effective against other big lineups (such as the Clippers lineup of Kaman and Camby). Any athletic bigs would more than likely destroy that lineup but with so much size it sure would clog up the middle.

I thought he was ok, but its amazing how worthless he is offensively. We play almost 4 on 5 when he's in there.

Nothing I was too excited about. He can obviously influence the game on defense and the boards when he is playing well, but that's nothing new. He still needs to get into better shape, though he's not as bad as he used to be.

When have you seen enough of him in a game to draw conclusions about his offense or conditioning? I saw at least 2 occasions in his limited minutes where he was wide open similar to when he dunked it and didnt get the ball....

I can understand that but Im sure we all remember being an elite team with Ostertag dont we? Ive been waiting forever for us to have a true center again.

With the right line ups all we need Fes for offensively is garbage buckets, and his plus on the defensive side is huge

I thought the opening was awesome.

Fes looked like a legit NBA player tonight, going to be fun to watch him throughout the season. He is such an oddball I love listening to his interviews.

Here is an idea:
Why not just start Fesenko full-time and allow Memo to come off the bench as a scorer? This move would give the Jazz some much-needed muscle and size near the basket. It would also give them shot blocking. It would give the Jazz more scoring off their bench and would balance things out with the starters. I forsee this possible lineup when Memo, C.J. Miles, and Korver come back:

PG: Deron Williams, Ronnie Price, Eric Maynor (D-League)
SG: C.J. Miles, Kyle Korver, Wesley Matthews
SF: Ronnie Brewer, Andrei Kirilenko
PF: Carlos Boozer/Paul Millsap, Kosta Koufos
C: Kyrylo Fesenko, Mehmet Okur, Kosta Koufos

That would be a dynamite team. Easily one of the best in the NBA.
