OT: Byron Scott Fired

Reports saying Byron Scott has been fired as the head coach of the New Orleans Hornets. I mean...I understand they have started off badly, but this early in the season? At least give the man a chance to turn things around.

Deserving? I say hell no.

Goes to show you how much respect/trust the Jazz organization has for the teams coaching staff.

Seems like D-Will and CP-3 are both having disappointing seasons, makes you wonder if either of them will ever win a title.

I think both guys will win NBA championships, just not with their current teams. Watching Deron on the Lakers in 3 years is gonna kill me, though.

This comes as a surprise to me as well. Wasn't it a couple seasons ago that he was being praised and was up for COY? I don't remember if he won it or not, but still. I would be surprised if this solves any of their problems, though I had heard that they had frequent locker room problems with this team. Maybe it was Scott.

It amazes me that a coach can win COY like two seasons ago and then be fired this early.

If the Hornets hadn't lost last year in the playoff to Denver 120 something to 60 something. He probably would have been given a better chance.

I think this was the last year on his current contracct and they weren't planning on bringing him back. They are also concerned about keeping theirr star player happy.

Could these recent comments by Scott have had anything to do with his dismissal?

"Obviously, I love this place. (The Lakers were) my team. I still tell people I bleed purple and gold, no matter what. And I always will," Scott said while the Hornets were playing in Los Angeles.

"Like Jerry West will always be a Laker, and he's the one who brought me here. That's like my Dad. So that's always going to be associated with this organization. It's not bad. It's not good. It's good for me. This is still home. In the summer, I still come back here."

Good thing for him that summer got here early then.

Meh, I've read this book before. Byron Scott gets a team with a top-tier PG, wins COY, makes a few deep playoff runs, then thinks its all because of him and burns bridges with said star PG, the player which has the leverage to pressure management into firing him.

The only thing that could be more spot on is if this all took place with the Nets.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. COY often (if not always) goes to the guy whose team exceeded expectations. So coaches who do well every year are expected to do well every year, and get somewhat overlooked.

Meanwhile, a coach of a worse team can have a surprisingly good year, and the coach gets the credit. Then the good year turns out to be a fluke, the team reverts to the norm, and the coach gets fired for not building on his one-year success. Pretty predictable pattern, really.

Exactly what I was thinking. Its funny how there are parallels between the hornets and the jazz during those few years. Both teams over-achieved, made it deep into the playoffs, followed by a disappointing early round exit, followed by a bad start to this season. Neither team changed much during the offseason and both don't look to get past the first round this year. Scott fired. Sloan praised by organization.

Except that the Hornets did make a major change, Okafor for Chandler...... I guess it didn'tmake them that much better.....

They also made other mistakes, like overpaying for Peterson and Posey a couple of seasons ago......

Just like we overpaid for Millsap this off-season........

Well this year he's a back up, and he's getting $10.3M, obviously too much for a back up, but next year if we don't draft a superstar PF, he'll be our starting PF, and he's a far better performer as a starter than on the bench, and he hasn't been THAT bad. 9.1ppg and 6.6rpg is pretty good off the bench in under 24mpg, and his last two games were pretty strong.

Yeah, he hasn't been that bad, he's been atrocious...... One or two good games doesn't make up for his bad play in the vast majority of games this season...... He's not a starting caliber PF in the NBA, and yet he's going to be paid like one for 4 years....... It was a terrible decision by the Jazz to match that contract........

If he starts for the Jazz next year, we'll be in the lottery.......

Now Crhis Paul is out... Is next draft so good? They are trying to tank.
