Harpring Update!

As many of us know, Harpring is likely done for season. If he misses 40 games (a certainty) the Jazz have insurance that pays 80% of his contract. What is a little surprising is he has said he is not retiring. He thus wants to play next year if not late this year.
He has alot of trade value as an expiring contract, but I doubt the Jazz are willing to spend more money on getting a player with a guranteed 2-3 contract for him.

If he was going to be fully healthy come playoff time this year he could help the team. He has playoffe experience, adds even more depth and works hard. Toughness wins playoff games.
If not though just let him sit this year and next and take the 80%.

Definitely wouldn't mind having him as he can return near 100%.

Remember that 80% pay back does not affect our tax situation. It just pays Harp for us.

Harp's playing days are behind him. Even if he should try to get back into game shape, he'll never make another meaningful contribution on the floor.

Harpring has said today he's done:
Despite the wear and tear of four collegiate seasons, 11 NBA seasons and undergoing numerous surgeries, I remained hopeful that I would be able to rejoin my Jazz teammates on the court this season. However, after consultations with the doctors and based on their recommendations, I have reluctantly come to the realization that my body can simply no longer withstand the rigors of NBA games and practices.

He made the right decision, and I am not saying that just because I'm not a huge fan of his, it's not worth ruining the rest of your life physically to play a little more......
He certainly had some good games for the Jazz...... And he was a very tough and fiery competitor, he actually cared about winning, can't say that about a lot of players today....... It's too bad injuries robbed him of so much playing time.......

Harp is 100% done. He is a man that sacrificed his body for the game and I will always respect him for how hard he worked. See link

I feel bad for him. He looked like he really wanted to come back. He truly gave everything he had. I think he can look back at his career with pride.
I wish him the best for retirement.

Just remember, the Jazz are insured for 80% of his salary for the second half of the season only. The team is on the hook for the entire salary for the first 40 games.

I think that says it all.
Thats one of my life rules: Make sure that I did what I could to be a right person and professional. Harpring was a real professional while playing for The Jazz.
I will miss him for sure.
Regards.

I want to see Harp on the sidelines as an assistant to Sloan.
