Kirilenko and NYK's 1st to MN... How?

Wolves fan here.

Are you interested in becoming major players in 2010 FA? You guys have the best point guard in the league, and its not as close as people think. Instead of taking a chance on a pick turning out to be the guy you need to pair with Deron, why not go and get a proven guy this summer? I can't imagine how good Deron would be with a true star running mate. Bosh anyone?

So what I want to know is how can we make a deal that lands Kirilenko and that NYK 1st in MN?

We can offer all the expirings you need to make that FA splash this summer. We have Sessions and Gomes on cheap contracts. Gomes in also not fully guaranteed. These 2 guys would solidify any championship bench. (As a side note, Gomes and Kirilenko have nearly identical production this year.) We have your first round pick and Charlotte's, both with protections. We also have Pekovic's rights in Europe. He is no Okur. He is a bruising low post scorer, who can come over next year. We don't want any big money coming back after 2011. We could also take Price off your hands to give you a lil more cap space this summer. We do not want to trade Rubio's rights, Flynn, Love, or Sessions.

So what do you think? Is there any kind of deal to be made here?

Not Likely.

Jazz with Bosh are no better than Jazz with Boozer. Plus we aren't exactly a free agent hotspot. We're much more excited about the NY pick than 2010 free agency, and shouldn't be willing to give up a potential top-5 pick/potential trade bait and one of our best playmakers for a big "what if".

Gomes and AK may have similar production in a few areas but AK brings so many other things.

If I were the Jazz management, Okur and Millsap would be on the table and I'd be doing what I could to either keep Boozer around or work out a big sign-and-trade at the end of the season so as not to lose too much talent.

Im kind of sick of people saying this. Is AK the best man defender on the team? No, Matthews is. Is AK the best help defender on the team? No, Millsap is. Best shot blocker? Millsap again.

Hate to break it to people, but AK is no different than say an Erik Dampier who has a monster season, cashes in and nobody hears from them ever again.

I would trade AK for Gomes in a heartbeat. AK is an overrated baby that just doesnt bring it night in and night out. I dont blame Jerry for AKs downfall, its on himself for not having the desire to bring it like he use to every night.

As for the OP: I dont see there being a package attractive enough to offer the NYK #1. The Jazz have decided to keep this pick and I cannot see any deal out there that will take it away from them.

Yeah! AK's been in the Jazz top 5 lineups for the past 2 years because he sucks. Obviously.

Here are a small list of players, ones that are available for the right price and within reason to target, that I would consider trading the NY pick in a package for:

Joakim Noah
Andris Biedrins
Greg Oden
Eric Gordon
James Harden
Anthony Randolph

We need size inside, a defensive presence and a shooter/shot creator on the wing that can take a little of the load off of Deron while stretching the defense. We also need guys that have mental toughness and are "dogs" who aren't afraid to get up into people and bloody their noses. Shane Battier would do wonders for this team.

While I understand where you're coming from and agree that AK is overpaid, there are other things than need to be taken into consideration.

I'd consider an AK trade but not for Gomes. AK gets more assists and blocks while averaging less turnovers and fouls. He runs the offense better. He is longer.

While Ak isn't the BEST defender on the team, be remains the most versatile. he doesn't lead the team in any one category but is second or third in most. Millsap blocks shots better but doesn't pass the ball well. Mathews is a better man-on defender but doesn't block shots or rack up rebounds and assists.

AK is like glue for this team and we're better with him. The only thing destroying his value is his salary. If we can resign him for 7m in a couple of years, I'm in.
