NBA All Decade: Derek Fisher 2007

Post#1 » by Neon Black » Fri Dec 18, 2009 8:38 pm

Fisher leads voting for Best Playoff Drama.

I know a lot of people are still pissed at him but his story in the 2007 playoffs is by far the best of the decade. Go vote:

Smart move by the site to split the Kobe vote by putting two of his games on there. Otherwise, he would have taken it by name recognition alone.

I hate Fisher but that game was surreal. We were down by like five with 40 seconds left or so. I think D-Will hit a big shot to send the game to OT.

ESA was insane. I wish they had a better clip where you could hear the crowd better.

That game was definitely worth staying up 'til 4:00 am.

That game was during my wife's B-Day I believe and Pietrus missed a couple of free-throws that would have won them the game and then the Jazz came back and had a great OT and the win.

I'm not going to vote for a guy that used his daughter's cancer to get out of a contract, and then sign with the Lakers when he said he would either take time off and sign with the Knicks/Nets later on so he could be close to his daughter, or retire, yet, the first thing he does is go right on and sign with the Lakers.

Derek Fisher is an awful human being, and we owe him nothing.

You guys are petty b*tches. Fisher NEVER said he would sign with the Knicks or Nets. He NEVER said he was going to take time off. He said he had to make a decision to be closer to the doctors who could treat his daughter. That means he could have played for Seattle, Knicks, Nets, Lakers, Warriors, Kings. Who would you choose? Either sign with one of five crap teams or sign with a team that you've already played for? You guys act like he somehow bamboozled the Jazz. He wasn't bought out, nor did he demand a trade. He did the professional thing. You guys need to pull your heads out of your @sses.

It was a great game and getting out of the contract helped the Jazz out. But yeah, he's a Laker so screw him, and only for that reason.

You take it too far, however I also remember the NYK or NJN thing. That game he flew in from NYC. Wheather it was reported this way incorrecly or not this was my first impression and I understood. If he is willing to play for those teams just to be near his daughter then that is admirable. Going to the lake show was treasonous.

The way this was handled was very admirable on LHMs part (no ? asked) but not fish's. Anyone know what was acually said behind closed doors? I would love evidence that made me believe otherwise however I believe that every Jazz fan has a right to be a little salty towards fish after this deal.

Ya Ill vote for him but I am still bitter about what happened. I am not sure whose fault this whole situation is....it's either Fishers fault for being misleading/lying or it is the medias fault for being misleading/lying. Either way, somewhere someone said something that lead the Utah Jazz fan base to believe that Fisher was let go in order to sign with an Eastern team so he could be closer to his daughters medical facilities based in NY city. Fisher than instead signs with our most hated team and a team that is based in a city where he and his family both enjoyed much more than SLC. Fans felt betrayed and thus the hatred for Fisher began...

I personally cannot figure out what really happened or what was suppose to happen. All I know is that I absolutely loved Fisher and that if we would have kept him we would probably be celebrating a Utah Jazz championship rein right now instead of a Laker one.

have you gone **** insane?! fisher would have been the difference maker during the playoffs last season? fisher is an irrelevant name in the NBA now. solid role player that's getting starter minutes atm. your classic veteran, but no way he pushes us over the hump to be a championship team, NO WAY

why is everyone so pissed off Fisher left? Regardless of whether Fisher lied or not, were the jazz really that close to a championship? I think we all know by now that 2007 was more a fluke than anything. He actually did us a favor, because him leaving made sloan play some of the younger guys a little earlier than he would of. Bottom line if Fisher was still with the jazz we would still be as inconsistent as we are now and get over it.

It is obvious that Fisher brought something to the Jazz that made them real contenders. In his first year with the team we went from out of the playoffs to the Western Conference Finals. After his departure we have slowly but surely dropped from elite status all while the Lakers improved from an 8th seed to the best team in the NBA (yes Pau helps a ton but have you ever thought maybe the Gasol trade doesn't happen unless Fisher joined the Lakers?) I don't understand why I should be considered insane when it is blatantly obvious that Fisher made us into championship contenders...we have only improved over the years and our improvement probably would have been further supplemented by Fishers presence had he stayed.

What are you guys smoking?

The Jazz got to the WCF because the Warriors upset the Mavs in the first round, not because of some Derek Fisher voodoo.

Ya I guess beating the Rockets in Houston in game 7 didn't mean anything and was just a fluke too right...

The Jazz have had the Rockets number every year for the last 5 years. Fisher wasn't a game changer in game 7, that was booooooooooooooooooooooooozer
