Kevin Martin?

Post#1 » by StocktonShorts » Wed Dec 23, 2009 10:01 pm

In Bill Simmons trade speculation piece today he suggested the following deal:

Fake Trade 12: Martin/Thomas to Utah for Andrei Kirilenko (expires 2011), Kyle Korver's EC, $3 million (not a problem because Utah still saves $3.2 million with the difference in salaries, plus another $3.2 million in luxury tax money) and the rights to New York's unprotected No. 1 pick in 2010.

Thoughts?

Maybe. We get rid of Korver, Thomas' contract expires giving us more room to re-sign Boozer. We get a 3rd guy who can create their own shot and take the load off of Deron and Booze, which is probably more than we'll ever get from the NY pick.

Deron, Price, ?
Martin, Mathews, Miles, Brewer
Brewer, Miles, Martin
Boozer, Millsap, Thomas, Koufos
Okur, Fes, Millsap, Thomas, Koufos

I think this makes us pretty damn dangerous. Maybe we could then trade Okur for the veteran presence we need. If Fes really starts hitting his potential and becomes our starting 5, we would be beyond solid.

Yes. Yes Yes Yes.

The only problem I see with the trade is the amount of small forwards the Kings would have. Nocioni, Cassipi, Korver, AK, and Udoka.

I think Kevin Martin would look pretty good coming off that curl screen at the top of the key.

My concern is largely that I've never heard the words "defense" and "kevin martin" used in the same sentence. How is he on defense?

From what I've heard, he's incredibly average on defense. Without a defensive big in the middle that'll translate into **** terrible. Martin is the perfect wing to play in our system though, he's extremely efficient and won't have any problems buying into what coach is preaching.

BTW - 9 pages and counting on the Kings board discussing this (hypothetical) deal...

The main argument there is whether Martin and Evans can co-exist.

We get our 3rd PG and a solid veteran guy with some length. Detroit gets younger and gets more raw talent out of the deal, so they do it too. Martin's skillset eliminates the need for Memo's shooting and Brewer's athleticism anyway.

Dwill, Price, Atkins
Martin, Mathews, Miles
Prince, Miles, Martin
Boozer, Millsap, Thomas, Koufos
Combination of Fes/Millsap, Thomas, Koufos

That is one solid roster. I think Prince would bring some leadership and experience that would really gel the team together. Letting Memo go only makes us better defensively...I think I would only do this if I was really confident that Fes would come through though. If he did...watch out.

I like those two trades put together but it means Fesenko better get in 30 mpg shape.

That is a scary lineup. Prince brings everything we lost in AK and more, we just need Fes to stay out of foul trouble. I could see us starting most games with Millsap at the 4 and Booze at the five spot and putting Fes in the startling line up against the likes of the Lakers, Orlando, and Cleveland. If we could pull those two trades off I'd be downright ecstatic.

He's not even average. He is a fine, fine player but the only people I've ever spoken to who think his defence is even at that level are a few Kings fans. Pretty much every advanced statistic and non-Kings report demonstrate that he's really pretty bad at it.

That bad huh? And we don't exactly have the personnel to hide his deficiencies. Our offense would be incredible though.

I've had a day to think about this K. Martin original post trade..I was on the fence...I don't believe Greg Miller/KOC would actually do this trade since it's so big..buut...

I'm all for it, he's coming off an injury yes but ESPN was reporting he's now shooting and practicing- but looking at his stats even this year would solve the loss of Kyle Korver's outside shooting, he's quicker...creates more..his contract is basically set in stone and not TERRIBLE..like prince's..plus it would take us near under the salary cap..there's a LOT of positives. And I like Korver too!

I love AK, as a player and a person..heck I love his wife more..and I cringe to see him go but if Sloan was forced to use Fess in the middle with Martin playing with Deron? WOW, that is a lineup that would fire up the offense in a heartbeat, a guy right now still even injured being the point leader for the kings? Wow. Makes sense for Sacramento with a first round pick and a GIANT expiring, makes sense for us and would change this team overnight. F

I'd rather see CJ/Brewer/Korver/whoever rings that cow bell at jazz games go instead of AK but..I do like the future idea of matthews and Martin in that spot.

But this is all dreaming...the Jazz will sign some NBA-D league or free agent to a 10 day blockbuster video rental for cheap as possible..if they like it they'll keep it..this will go on for 20 days or so..that's my guess..

This is also David Locke's wet dream. He is always talking about getting Martin to the Jazz in some dream scenario and the other guys always laugh at him for it. I personally think the Kings need to do everything they can to keep Evans and build around him. I don't know if these two would work together that great, but it's hard to tell.

Bill Simmons? HA! Yeah right we get the Kevin Martin on the cheap like that. He's the Kings best player.
