DWill/Okur for Paul/Okafor

Post#1 » by drivewayball » Mon Dec 28, 2009 5:59 pm

The numbers here are basically a wash. Utah takes on a little extra salary. Key to the deal is that NO gets Okafor's long term contract off the books and gets a shorter, slightly cheaper contract in return.

Why for the Jazz? An upgrade from one of the better point guards in the league to the very best and addition of an actual center that can provide some defense. Built around Paul, Millsap and Okafor, the Jazz get some flexibility in two seasons when Kirilenko's contract expires.

Why for NO? Well, realistically, this is the only type of deal in which they could move Paul (one in which they get a comparable figurehead in return). In obtaining Okur, they are getting some longer term flexibility in their salary structure.

Theoretically, NO might want to clear additional salary in this deal. Maybe Korver and Posey could be added for that purpose.

I'm trying to think of any deal in NBA history where two teams swapped franchise players who play the same position...

I can't think of many either, especially when it comes to young franchise players.

This is stupid, we're not trading Williams for Chris Paul. I would trade Okur for a bag of candy, though.

That was the closest I could think of in recent years, but Al Jefferson wasn't Boston's franchise player. He's not anyone's franchise player.

Well, I'm one who thinks Williams doesn't run his team properly more often than desired, but I see him as part of the solution for the Jazz, not as part of the problems around...

Jazz don't have to trade him, they just need to put a solid backcourt player with average D, some ball handling and shooting skills around him. Go this way and you will see D-Will becoming a nightmare for the rest of the NBA. Right now the Jazz are asking/expecting too much from Deron... and if you ask me, I'd say our PG is not at ease with it...

Yes, trade Okur, to anybody who has a center who can play defense. I would keep williams over paul anytime! We needs bigs who can play defense and a really good 2/3 who can really shoot!

Yes, I think he was..... He was the guy they were going to rebuild around, it wasn't going to be Pierce.......

And what's wrong with Jefferson? I think he's a very solid guy to build a team around?

Trade of two young All Star Point guards in the past? Bibby for White Chocolate. Assuming that DWill becomes an all star some day, that trade would be similar.

1) Jason Williams was never an all-star nor did he ever make any of the All-NBA teams

2) Mike Bibby was never an all-star nor did he ever make any of the All-NBA teams

3) Neither guy had a max deal

So I don't think this fits...

Bottom line is DWill and CP3 aren't just all-star franchise players. They are arguably the two best PG's in the league right now. That kind of swap is simply unheard of.

Marbury for Kidd is the closest imo.
