Sloan's Replacement

Post#1 » by StocktonShorts » Tue Jan 5, 2010 12:55 am

Let's say Jerry Sloan stepped down today for "personal reasons" -- in other words Greg/Gail Miller asked him to retire, (yes I know it's unlikely, but let's not debate that here), who do you replace him with and when?

A) Phil Johnson until the end of the season, then look for a replacement from options below and other available coaches

B) Some other coach who just got fired: Lawrence Frank, Byron Scott

C) A coach who's been out of work for a bit: Jeff Van Gundy, Avery Johnson, Sam Mitchell

D) A former player looking for a first coaching gig: Mark Jackson

I like Ty Corbin. I don't want Phil Johnson to be the head coach because he is already old and we know how long we like to hold onto our coaches for. Ty is still pretty young. Avery Johnson would be a good idea I think. I like the idea of having a guard coaching the Jazz.

won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Out of those four I like Avery. JVG has teams shoot too many three's for my liking. Avery had the Mavs as one of the best defensive teams when he coached them. And if you don't like him there's already a site begging for the axe!

I wonder how Avery's praising of "Gad" in every interview would go over with the Mormon contingent of the fan base.

I think that Avery would be good for this team.

Mark Jackson has no chance of coaching here. He burned many many bridges here as a player and became a team cancer Stocktons last season here.

Phil or Corbin doesnt matter. They will coach in the way coached Sloan.

So we dont need all these guys.

Sloan please retire!!! Everybody tired of you!

Horny, Corbin, Avery, JVG are my top 4. I'd be happy with any of them.

I always liked AJ's fire- and the fact he seems to relish the role of motivator. Some seem to think the Jazz lack an emotional leader on the floor; I believe what is lacking is a leader as coach. Sloan has lost this squad, and as a result the record has been lackluster.

Now, rather than Sloan going to pasture as he should, the roster is about to be blown up in favor of less talented, less experienced, cheaper players who fit Sloan's antiquated system so that he has the opportunity to lose yet another team and the Jazz may muddle through many more forgettable seasons of mediocrity, until, finally, after all the good players are gone and the dismayed fan base has found other avenues of distraction, the rusty old fireless former competitor keels over and turns to dust on the bench. Following which the Jazz quietly endure their final throes of death, and former fans begin following the NBA's new Vegas High Rollers.

^ ^ ^

Oh, c'mon... How can the sensation of competitive mediocrity ever feel complete if one doesn't occasionally mine the depths of hopelessness?
