Traded:
Eric Maynor: 5p 2r 3aHas played much the same in Oklahoma City as he did in Utah but his 3-pt % has improved drastically - good trade for Oklahoma City and I've warmed up to it from the Jazz standpoint.
Matt Harpring: RETIREDGot us a nice TE.
Acquired:Sundiata Gaines: 3p 1r 1aWas a great story with his game against Cleveland, hasn't played much since.
Rumors:
Carlos Boozer: 19p 11r 4aStill a dominating force in the paint, our go-to scorer. Says that he does not think he should be traded. Does that mean he wants to stay?
Ronnie Brewer: 10p 4r 3aRumored to be involved in a trade that would send Utah a first round pick and salary relief. Not to sure how plausible that is after the Harping trade.
"Grizzlies interest in Utah's Ronnie Brewer is future insurance for losing Rudy Gay thru deadline trade or free agency, league sources say."
Total salary 2010: $74,415,591 Total salary 2011: $56,688,043 Draft Picks:New York's own 2010 1st round pick to Utah via Phoenix. [#10 as of Jan 21]
Utah's own 2010 1st round pick to Minnesota via Philadelphia (top 15 protected in 2010, top 17 protected in 2011, top 16 protected in 2012, and top 16 protected in the 2013 Draft). However, if Utah's own 2010 first round draft is not protected, and if Utah is entitled to receive New York’s own 2010 first round draft pick, then Utah shall convey to Minnesota via Philadelphia the least favorable of its own 2010 first round draft pick and New York’s 2010 first round draft pick. If Minnesota via Philadelphia does not receive a first round draft pick from Utah pursuant to the foregoing in any of the Drafts from 2009 through 2013, then Utah’s obligation to send a first round draft pick to Minnesota via Philadelphia shall be extinguished and Utah shall instead convey to Minnesota via Philadelphia Utah’s own 2014 second round draft pick and pay to Philadelphia cash. [#18 as of Jan 21]

I thought it would be good to smash all this stuff into one thread. If there is anything you want added to the first post tell me and I will edit it.

Eh, just let this fade into the next page.....I just want to see all the rumors in one place not neccesarily discuss them there, and if no one else does I'll just write them down or something.

Correct me if I am wrong, but don't the Jazz have to make a decision on their 13th man next week? Aren't they out of 10 day contracts for Gaines? I believe they signed him to the second one on the 15th, which puts it at Monday.
Just a thought.

With Sandiatta Gaines' second 10-day about to expire on Monday, the Jazz will either have to sign him, another D-Leaguer or make a trade. While most, including myself, assume the Jazz are most likely to simply resign Gaines or another D-Leaguer than make a trade, the Brewer rumors have some intrigue due to the timing. Also, the Wiz are said to be shopping Butler pretty hard. A Booz for Butler and Haywood trade could make us a contender. If everyone came together just right and all of the planets aligned perfectly.

I disagree. Moving Boozer really hurts this team's chances. He's been the best player on the team this year.

I think when Gaines contract expires the Jazz will have two weeks to get back to 13 players, just like last time. Although if they plan on resigning him for the remainder ofv the year it would be best to resign him.

My guess: Jazz will sign Gaines for the remainder of the season because:
1) They always carry three point guards
2) They need 13 players
3) If they make a trade, it seems most likely at this point to be a roster-neutral or roster-negative move (such as Brewer to Memphis for picks). In other words, the Boozer/AK for multiple players trades that have been discussed seem increasingly unlikely.

jazz will really have to like gaines to sign him the rest of the year. i think it is cheaper to find some more point guards to sign to a couple 10-day-ers till the season's over.

I agree, Boozer has been great offensively. But i think this trade would make us better. Our scoring would be less effective but I'd like to see what Memo and Millsap can do with more focus on them with a legit defensive big man beside them. Also, I think this trade makes Deron better. Butler would take some pressure of Deron as he can play with the ball in his hands, unlike our entire roster outside off Deron. It takes us from a joke of a defensive team to, on paper, a legitimate defensive team.
It would be risky, as Booz is playing great, but he isn't in the Jazz future and this could be the best value we can get for him. I'd love to see it happen, but also agree it could be risky.

Pistons would give you Rip or Prince for Boozer.....
Expanded trade that saves you money:
Rip/Prince/Brown/Maxiell for Kirilenko/Boozer/Korver/Koufos

I'm with you on this one, I'd rather see if Boozer can help us this year and hope he resigns than get a couple of old role players on a disfunctional team. I think if we trade anyone it should be Brewer or Miles, and maybe Millsap if it's in a package deal for that 3rd star (Kevin Martin? Andre Igoudala? Rudy Gay?).

I'm not so sure this is still true. If Sloan wants him around, you can bet the FO will try and make that happen.

I really doubt Boozer, Millsap or Okur is dealt before the deadline. Presumably the Jazz want to keep two of those three, but until this summer you won't really know if one of them is Boozer.

With how well the Jazz have been playing since Deron came back from injury I think it's imperative for the Jazz take a serious look at how to improve this team to make a playoff run. In all likely hood this team is going to look different next season so go for it all this year. There is no promise that you'll have a team with this many weapons next year, or for the foreseeable future so go for it all this year and see if you can't make something amazing happen.
Try to get a dynamic wing player to put next to Deron and make a serious push. There is no reason the Jazz can't be just as competitive as Denver was last year in the playoffs, and I think with a good wing player the Jazz could be even better.
Go for it now because you don't know what tomorrow will hold.
