Let's not jump the gun here with Weaver. Sonic-ben, you forgot Watson in your rotation(I've been in Hawaii for a week, I didn't miss him being traded did I ?). There was a reason Weaver, as a senior, was picked as low as he was. I would say he is the third string guard as a combo player for defensive speciality roles to try and throw off specific backcourt players who get hot during games.
I do like the trade alot but I wouldn't be so quick to say he's solidly in the rotation. Westbrook, Watson, Durant, Mason and yes, even Wilkens are ahead of him at this stage.
But hey, adding another player whose last name begins with a "W" fits.

McG wrote:My personal opinion of Kyle Weaver is that he will really struggle to succeed in the NBA. The closest comparison to him (an all-around player, 6-7ish, with PG/SG skills) over the past decade has to be Julius Hodge, a 1st round pick who was out of the league within 3 years. I just see Weaver as being below-average at basically everything except perimeter defense. That being said, you won't really be able to consider him a "bust" as most 2nd rounders struggle to find any kind of success in the league.
Since I am a big Weaver fan I'm going to disagree with your comparison. Weaver is an great passer. He can create shots for others because of his ability to drive. His shot has improved and his defense is great. He is a good rebounder for a guard. He does a lot of the little things right and he has savvy.

I realize your newfound love of Cougar basketball/Weaver but I think it's definitely bluring your vision. If you replace 'Weaver' with 'Hodge' your analysis would still be correct. My point is that both were excellent all-around players in college, but they never excelled at any one thing. The states (PTS/REB/ASS/TO/A-TO/STL/BLK/FG%):
Weaver: 12.2 / 5.3 / 4.3 / 2.8 / 1.56 / 1.7 / 0.7 / .463
Hodge: 17.0 / 6.6 / 4.8 / 2.6 / 1.82 / 1.4 / 0.7 / .493
While not adjusted for overall pace I think they're eerily similar. I highlighted Assist-TO Ratio to detail the overall playmaking ability for each player (considered their strong points when drafted). The only thing that may make Weaver an everyday rotation player (say 15 minutes/game) is his defense. Best case scenario I see him as an energy player with limited minutes. Not necessarily a bad thing for a 2nd rounder but definitely not starter-potential.

McG, I don't really see the point in questioning someone's knowledge or experience every time they're on the other side of the fence of you (questioning Big_Mac79's "newfound" fanhood of WSU). Definitely possible that he just sees it differently than you do
Personally, I think that Weaver can be a decent enough professional... I don't really see him as some kind of God-sent answer to our prayers, but I do see him as a player that brings a different skill set to the table than what we already have available to us. Often times, this niche is all that it takes for "average" players to excel (or on the opposite side, fail) in the NBA.

Trust me Wiz, EVERY WSU basketball fan has followed the team for exactly two seasons. Their televised games have changed from watching the awkward 100 people spread out among the stands to a sea of crimson basically overnight. I fail to consider these leeches fans. One word can sum up every person who has latched onto Cougar basketball: fairweather.
And SBen, I'm not sure what point your scrambled thoughts are trying to make but I'll settle on saying that the vast majority of collegiate athletes have the 'desire to succeed' and ALL NBA players have the 'ability.' Desire can only get you so far, and for about 95% of athletes this isn't even past high school (i.e. For Weaver it's not past college).

So if I am 2 hours away and a MOUNTAIN PASS with avaolaches from seattle suppersonics and do not go to games that much 3 times I am not a fan
And if I am 2 hours away from pullman working at night when they play do I not DVR them and watch them in the morning... have gone to over 50 games ...
Weaver does not make a team by outside shooting but has improved
Weaver will make the team by playing defense , rebounding, blocking shots, stealing , and passing
which every NBA teams need to add to the SUPPERSTAR KD

Well I just want to say that I am not a fair weather fan. I go to WSU and have been for the past 3 years. So no I never watched Weaver as a Freshman but I saw every homegame his Sophomore, Junior and Senior years. I watched every away game that was televised and even went to there games in Seattle against the likes of San Diego State and The Citadel. I watched every game his sophomore year and went through the 20 or so losses. So I am absolutely NOT a fairweather fan. You might want to figure stuff out before making such claims.

SBen & BigMac. Don't get me wrong, I"m not trying to debate your fanhood over the past 2 seasons at all. I'm sure each of you cheered just as loud as everyone else on the Bennett wagon. What I am saying is that when WSU is stuggling to finish 7th in the Pac-10 next season, and you decide to turn off the UCLA game midway through the 1st half, then your true spirits will have a chance to blossom. But really, more power to both of you if you are one of the 72 people who followed the team before Bennett.

Re: OKC Acquires Kyle Weaver [Wiretap]
Bennett never had anything to do with WSU .... thank god
WSU may struggle ... but I enjoy the ride of a coach developing a core group
But I figuire that #1 UCLA #2 Arizona St .. maybe? and a crap shoot after that so WSU could really surprise next year
By the way Seattle had a really good fan base weather
really good .... sold out
really bad... still I think 12,000 fans avg ...
It was just a bad contact signed by the owner in 93-95
and A guy that wanted to move them to Oakville from the get go

Ben he was talking about Tony
Just to reitirate I am not a bandwagon fan. I will the games even IF they are as painful to watch as you say. I sit through the football games every Saturday.
Just a heads up on someone to watch Taylor Rochestie. Finished the year with A/TO ratio of 2.81 which was good enough for tenth in the country. Shot 43.4% from three. Now he carries the team this year. Just a heads up.

WOW. I take back everything I said about you only following the team for the past two seasons. I should have said two seconds.

I got the heads up on Rochestie when he shot you out of the tourney against Vandy two years ago. I expect his A/TO ratio to drop below 2 when he has primary ballhandling duties without Weaver and Lowe. Just a heads up.
