The Oklahoma City Thunder has sold out its available season tickets in advance of the 2008-09 season and is starting a waiting list. In only five days, the Thunder sold approximately 13,000 season tickets at all price levels, including $10 upper level seats.
“This is a testament to Oklahoma’s commitment to our team. We are thrilled and extremely appreciative of our fans and corporate supporters,” said Thunder Chairman Clay Bennett. “This kind of support means so much to our players, coaches and staff. We are humbled and excited.”
With a 13,000 cap on season tickets, the team has canceled the remaining three days of its seat selection process. Team spokesman Dan Mahoney said, however, all fans who had randomly scheduled appointments scheduled but were unable to buy season tickets will automatically be put on a waiting list to be offered eight-game partial season ticket packages. “Buying those mini-packages will give them priority on the waiting list for full season tickets in future seasons if they become available,” Mahoney said. Information on those mini plans will be sent to the waiting list beginning the week of September 22.
Despite selling out season tickets, the Thunder is holding back more than 4,000 tickets for single game sales, group sales and the partial-season plans. “We did not want to sell out the Ford Center with season tickets. We want to be able to offer a wide variety of fans access to Thunder basketball games, so we will have single game tickets and group sales opportunities available for every game,” Mahoney said. Single game tickets for the first half of the season will go on sale in October.

This won't shut up the haters/whiners tho. They'll still make ridiculous claims about the city and team.
Anyways, it's good to see fans psyched about the season. I know I am!

Re: Season tickets sold out!
What's the total seating for the Ford Center? If I remember correctly it's about 20-21K for basketball... that means with 13K sold, there's 7-8K left -- of which about 2-3K are probably the suite levels, which are usually corporate wine & dine events for clients. That means 4-6K general admission tickets left over. Assuming of course that the 13K number does not include the suite level. I'm not sure on that.
At any rate... if you look at percentage of capacity, I'm thinking OKC will probably be in the top five for attendance.

I've done a little homework -- the number is 19,599 to be exact. The seating capacities are as follows (highest capacity first):
Code: Select all
Detroit Pistons 22,076
Chicago Bulls 21,711
Philadelphia 76ers 21,600
Cleveland Cavaliers 20,562
Minnesota Timberwolves 20,500
Washington Wizards 20,173
New Jersey Nets 20,049
Utah Jazz 19,991
Portland Trail Blazers 19,980
Toronto Raptors 19,800
New York Knicks 19,763
Miami Heat 19,600
Oklahoma City Thunder 19,599
Denver Nuggets 19,399
Dallas Mavericks 19,200
Charlotte Bobcats 19,000
Los Angeles Clippers 18,997
Los Angeles Lakers 18,997
San Antonio Spurs 18,797
Atlanta Hawks 18,750
Milwaukee Bucks 18,717
Boston Celtics 18,624
Phoenix Suns 18,422
Houston Rockets 18,370
Indiana Pacers 18,345
Memphis Grizzlies 18,165
New Orleans Hornets 18,000
Golden State Warriors 17,496
Sacramento Kings 17,317
Orlando Magic 17,248
That puts OKC in the upper middle of seating capacities. The next question is one of attendance. I mean, real attendance -- not where a team will give tickets away and count them as attending regardless of whether or not the freebies show up. I think Oklahoma City will be way up there in actual percentage of capacity filled.
