Thunder Decision No Surprise

Post#1 » by JO_CB_FTW » Tue Nov 25, 2008 12:20 am

The fact that the Oklahoma City Thunder fired Coach P.J. Carlesimo and replaced him with assistant coach Scott Brooks really isn't a surprise, but it's not just because the Thunder have a horrible record (1-13 after a loss in Brooks' debut).

Eyes were raised around the league in the summer of 2007 when the then-SuperSonics name Carlesimo their coach. It wasn't seen as a good fit for P.J. to make his return to head coaching in the NBA and many wondered if team ownership secretly knew that. I find it hard to believe anyone would intentionally do such a thing, but I do believe that Carlesimo was never intended to be a long-term solution.

Brooks will be given a shot for the duration of this season to see if the Thunder likes what he does and how the young core of Kevin Durant, Jeff Green and Russell Westbrook respond to his teaching style.
