Oklahoma securing its own professional team, the Oklahoma City Thunder, was a plus, Zogby said.
"Having the NBA never hurts," he said. "The numbers went up among men."
Success by Oklahoma's college football teams this season also probably helped with Americans having a better opinion or image of the state, he said

Yeah, interesting article. I'm not really sure how much it has to do with the Thunder though. Even the results of the poll don't seem to say anything about the Thunder specifically, just the comments on the poll. Between OU in the natl championship, the recent Bradford Heismann and the new OKC NBA team things have to at least be getting better as far as how much Natl attention is on the city. I really don't think anything has happened that would drastically change anyone's opinion of the place though.

That's kind of what I was wondering about. I didn't know that a horrible losing season can really improve things too much. I guess maybe people thought of OKC as a little town, and they've seen that the Thunder are drawing ~18,000+ per night??
