Did you guys see this on the ESPN ticker? Does that mean Watson is gone?

I really like this trade. I dont like Petro because he honestly sucks. We get another pick. Yes I would think this means the end for Watson. Plus it gets rid of some of the glut we have at the 4 and 5. Good trade!

Both Atkins and Petro are pretty worthless, as neither really play at all.

Getting a first for a 2nd basically = win!

Petro had no value to us... we've got FAR too many below avg to avg post players, especially when you add in White and the possiblity of Ibaka in the future. He just wasn't part of the picture. Atkins is a solid guard if healthy and has good range on his jumper (which is a rarity on this team). With his injuries, it's possible that they'll just keep splitting up the guard minutes like they have been. However, from the Denver side, it sounded like Chucky was pushing for this, and since he's going to a losing team, that's gotta mean minutes, right?

Only downside is that I believe that Chucky has a few mil on his contract for next year, whereas Petro is expiring.

We end up moving probably 10-15 picks in the draft (assuming Denver makes the playoffs).

Overall, I like it!

I doubt we would be moving up 15 spots, probably not even 10. If they season ended today, Denver's pick is the 25th, our 2nd rounder is the 31st.

Now if Melo keeps getting hurt, and Billups and Nene have big injuries, then it may be a different story. But if your thinking they won't make the playoffs then ur mistaken

I don't think they'll have a strong second half personally. I was thinking they'd probably end up with the 5 or 6 seed in the west, leaving them with around pick 18-20. There's just too many question marks with Denver and too much talent on all of the other teams. Not saying they aren't good, I just definitely don't think they're the 2nd best team in the West.

Since the Billups/Iverson trade Denver has played well. I figure OKC will be moving up around 8 spots in the draft which isn't significant in a draft that's supposed to be a weak one. As mentioned both Atkins and Petro aren't going to make a bit of difference to their new teams although Denver needed some big man depth more than OKC needed another pointguard.

But this is about money, plain and simple for the Nuggets and stockpiling draft picks for OKC, although I find it very interesting that someone mentioned they now can trade Watson and still have the backup role covered. I guess we'll have to stay tuned to find out. Denver was in the luxury tax and now they are below it and also save some money on the contract exchange. And as mentioned in a weak draft having a three year second round, non guaranteed contract might be better than having a guaranteed, 4 year deal on your books.

But I would point out that Sam Presti is an RC Buford disciple. The Spurs are very good at hiding draft prospects overseas until they need them, which doesn't cost anything. They drafted Luis Scola, hid him for a while then traded him. They drafted Tiago Splitter who is playing in Europe for a while longer. And I can't think of the guys name, something like Mahini, that they drafted a couple years ago didn't they?

The point is Presti is not going to draft 3 or 4 or whatever amount of picks he has, plus second rounders, and find a place on the big club for them all. I bet you'll see a combination of a trade using one of them, picking another foreign player and stash him away like he did with Ibaka, and perhaps keeping one other of their picks besides Blake Griffin(whoops, did I let that slip?).

Overall I think both Denver and OKC accomplished something to their liking with this deal although it certainly isn't a big one.

I find it more intruiging that Memphis traded for Shaun Livingston and now for some strange reason has another gimpy pointguard to pair up with Steve Francis. Along with the Darius Miles thing I can't figure out what the heck the Grizzlies GM is hoping to accomplish.

Just feel thankful you guys have Sam Presti calling the shots and not John Wallace, the Grizzlies GM.

it's blank, which from what I've seen before, usually means that the contract goes into that year, they just don't know the exact value. I would assume it is more than this year's, just because they typically go up. I could be wrong though...

Chucky's contract only has about 700,000 guaranteed for next year....which is why everyone always talks about him like he is expiring.

He could actually be a pretty sick trading chip next summer for you....as he is almost like a TPE; a chance for a team to dump around 4 million off their cap while only having to paying a little over a half million(that's how we got J.R. Smith from the Bulls, by using Howard Eisley's nonguaranteed contract and 2nd rounders).

3 reasons i love this move:

1.) Petro = first round pick that never panned out. Presti's first round pick > Petro.
2.) Atkins > 2nd round pick when we have so many already.
3.) Atkins can hit the 3! Who else can??

Thanks for the info on that :)

I was a little confused as to why all of the Nuggs fans kept talking about him having such a small contract next year, when all I was seeing was ~3.5 mil...
