Okafor for #3, Collison and blank

Post#1 » by wiff » Thu Jun 4, 2009 6:17 pm

So there is a trade idea on the Trades and Transaction page also over at the Bobcats page and it's pretty much comes down to

Okafor

for

#3
Collison
and the Bobcats choice between the #25 or White or Weaver.

I like the trade I think those three assets are worth giving up for a guy like Okafor.

This trade would have to go down after July 1st. Because Okafor is a BYC and the Thunder will be under the cap July 1st when everyone comes off the books.

I think it gives the Thunder a defensive anchor in the middle they need and they can afford make a quantity for quality trade.

Plus Okafor can give you 14pts, 10rebs and 1.5blks in 33 minutes a night. Plus he is consistent.

I'd do that, but I don't think the third player is necessary (unless for salary reasons). Collison isn't just a throw-in.

I like the idea, Okafor brings up solid interior defense and he has good shot block timing, that quite reminds me of Alonzo Mourning.

I think the third player is necessary, Collison is good but the package #3+Collison is not comparable to a top defensive force in the paint.

Not a bad call, but Okafor is a little short.

i think if this kind of trade occured, they'd be better off starting krstic at center and okafor at pf, bringing jeff green off the bench as a sixth man. a starting lineup of westbrook/sefolosha/durant/okafor/krstic is pretty strong defensively and really only lacks 3pt shooting. jeff green would be ultra effective off the bench against other reserves and you could go small now and then with green at pf and okafor at c. i'd probably look to sign someone like eddie house for some 3pt shooting off the bench and you've got a good roster.

i'd probably send the #3, #25, collison and weaver in the deal. okafor's a pretty good player, and he's more or less the face of the bobcats right now. it'll take a bit more in value to pry him away, but i think it's worth it since he'd fit this roster so well.

If this went down I wouldn't have a problem with bringing Green off the bench either.

I would rather hang on to White and Weaver though.

I think the value is there for Okafor with the three assets. However you do make a good point about Okafor being the face of the franchise for the Bobcats.

I know people feel Thabo and Weaver have a similar game but I do think Weaver could be a decent back up PG in the league. And that's why I'd rather not part with him.

I know Livvy is already on the bench but most teams carry three PG's.

I think Weaver is a valuable piece to have if Livvy gets banged up or if Thabo goes down.

I'd be a lot more inclined to give up next seasons 2nd round pick.

remember earl watson's still on the roster.. he'll probably get some minutes at pg even if he stinks.

just remember about okafor though. it's similar to how most here view trading jeff green. green's performance really isn't indicative of anything super special, and most of the posters here seem to want a lot more for him than he's worth in terms of production. teams and their fans tend to view their young(er). home grown players favorably and it usually takes a bit more in a trade to get them.

okafor's only 26. his extension is a little pricey, but still. it'll take more than his actual value to get him in a trade, which would be true of most team's home grown prospects excepting the ones who are disgruntled for whatever reason.

I think "Earl the hurl" will be gone before the trade deadline.

I'd be more inclined to give up Atkins expiring instead of Weaver.

It may be a personal bias but I think Weaver brings something to the table for this team. Weaver made huge strides last year and once he got minutes he proved he belongs in the league. Give them Wilkins.

Just keep Weaver.

i like weaver and if he can improve his 3pt% a bit (37% or so maybe) he has real value to this team. maybe similar to what courtney lee is bringing to orlando right now. i don't see the pg play that otheres have seen with him, he seems too timid handling the ball. i guess this could change.

that said, if he's the difference between acquiring a guy like okafor or not you've gotta let him go.

i would not do this trade we are giving up way too much, i like bosh or amare better, and collison is a guy who can score a double double every game but our teams not too hot, giving up our 3rd pick is like giving up thabeet,if we did this trade, who would be our center? so i wouldnt do this tradee

Basically comes down to Thabeet versus Okafor... if it's close, then you don't do it because of the extra pieces added in. So it is a 7-3, young, unproven center that is a great shotblocker or a 6-10 PF/C that is a few years older but more of a sure thing??

i'd take okafor over thabeet a billion times out of a billion. the odds that thabeet is as productive as okafor is within the next few years, if ever, are pretty slim imo.

Selecting Thabeet if you have a shot at Okafur is a TREMENDOUS gamble. Okafur fits right into what we're doing, and there are several years of basketball behind this statement. Thabeet is simply a big (very big) maybe at this point. The only thing to watch out for is Okafur's injury history.

I find it hard to believe that anyone would use Collison as an excuse to stop this move. Collison's skills are nice, but they will only decline over the next few years. He works so hard to get his stats, I think his body will begin to show signs of decline.

I would be leery of making this deal not because of the players or picks involved, but because of the financials of the deal. Okafor is going to make 12 million a year for the next six years. Two years from now Durant and Green will receive extensions that will be around 17 and 12 million respectively. Westbrook gets his extension the following year for something like 14 million. That is 55 million amongst four players. Okafor could be for us what Peja's contract is to the New Orleans Hornets, an exorbitant contract for a guy that doesn't make you all that much better, and a contract that makes it hard to be able to afford to bring anyone else in.

I dont think Okafor can get much better. Hes a bust of a draft pick. Why pick a #3 bust, when you have presti to pick a #3 steal :D

Would you rather add Krstic or no?

It's an alright deal. Signing David Lee might make it look better, but he's a bit overrated anyways.

I'm surprised you guys like it more than the Bosh-Green/3rd pick deal floating around by fans everywhere. Collison is far from a throw in, and while not the most ideal center, could still fit next to Bosh and Durant nicely until a better option was found.
