Krystic...more that he seems

Post#1 » by Clangus » Mon May 3, 2010 4:59 am

I know he shoots inconsistantly, I know he gets blocked too many times in close....

But is his impact on defense more than the box would indicate?

I cant stand seeing him start, but he is very good positional (as in knowing where to slide and roll to) defender?!

Thoughts - anyone know a good site to look at his def rating - +/- Vs other C's around etc etc?

He is too slow (and too bad) for this team. He had -30 in one playoffgame against the Lakers  a close game it was. Awful. OKC need a new starter, Krstic dont fit well with the athleticism

Obviously there are all sorts of numbers you can look at, and many people will tell you they don't mean anything. Found this set interesting though (from 82 games):
Stat ON Court OFF Court Net
Minutes 1739 2221 43%
Offense: Pts per 100 Poss. 110.0 109.4 +0.6
Defense: Pts per 100 Poss. 106.6 104.3 +2.3
Net Points per 100 Possessions +3.5 +5.1 -1.6
So with Krstic in we score a bit more, but are better on defense with him on the bench. By their calcs the Thunder are -1.6 points worse off per 100 possessions with him on the floor. I thought it would be worse, somethings like this:
Stat ON Court OFF Court Net
Minutes 3042 918 76%
Offense: Pts per 100 Poss. 109.9 109.1 +0.8
Defense: Pts per 100 Poss. 107.7 97.7 +10.0
Net Points per 100 Possessions +2.2 +11.5 -9.3
Those are Jeff Green's regular season numbers.

Nenad is a highly intelligent player who knows where to be on offense and defense. He's rarely out of position.

I don't think Nenad is a poor center, he's just a very poor center to pair with our undersized PF. Jeff Green shouldn't be playing PF, and having a center next to him whose strengths don't cover up any of his weaknesses just makes no sense. Nenad gets a lot of the blame for a lot of things that really aren't his fault - just a result of poor lineup management, IMO.

If Krstic played next to Serge or Collison I'm sure he'd look much better in statistical +/- for example. He's a servicable center.

Jeff Green is not going anywhere. KD wants Jeff on this team and talked pretty strongly to that in his exit interview Saturday. KD does not want the chemistry on this team disrupted.

Kevin Durant will get over it. Yielding to players when making personnel decisions is a sure fire way to ruin a team. If Jeff Green stays on the team it'll have to be in a bench role, at a reduced salary than what he would get starting elsewhere at SF.

He's not a viable starting PF in this league, defensively. Who cares what KD wants? He's a player not the GM. He'll have a great team surrounding him and none of the players will be bad character guys because Presti doesn't look at those.

They will not mess with the team chemistry. That may be the biggest asset this team has going for it. And Green is a big part of team chemistry. If KD wants Green on this team, he will be here.

If this were New York City, Chicago, or some other established large NBA market, then what you say is probably true, you should not let players dictate personnel move. But due to the unique situation this team is in , I throw that rule out the window.

They will go to the nth degree to preserve the chemistry that's been built.

Chemistry doesn't beat the Lakers. Sam Presti knows that.

Jeff Green doesn't have to be traded but his role will have to change if we're going to win anything. I'm sure winning is more important to KD than chemistry.

Also this is not a unique situation.. lots of teams have excellent chemistry.. lots of young teams have had excellent chemistry and end up fizzling out.

Nah, the biggest thing this team has going for it is KD.

Damn straight. I'm glad he's loyal to his teammates, but the guy is going to want a ring sooner rather than later.

I think that is the key to the offseason... we have to think of the PF/C positions as a package. If they want to keep JG as the starting PF, they need to pair him with a shot-blocking, glass-cleaning, paint-patrolling monster (ie Orlando with Lewis and Howard). If they want to keep Nenad as the starting C, they need to pair him with a PF that brings those skills to the table. That looks like Ibaka, but can he be a starter next season? I still think he's a few years away from having the game smarts.
