Backup Center

Post#1 » by Balkman32 » Thu May 27, 2010 2:00 pm

Roster Spot #1 -

The Thunder need a backup Center. They need someone to come in and push Kristic and Mullens. They can do it through the Draft with Monroe, Orton, Whiteside or Alabi. OR the Thunder can add a big man through Free Agency like Ian Mahinmi.

Ian Mahinmi would add instant competition, while IMO we will be waiting for the guys in the draft to make an impact. Presti was in the draft room then the Spurs took Ian Mahinmi. I think this guy is someone the Thunder need to keep on their radar.

By roster spot #1, I assume you are referring to the soon to be open roster spot created by Etan Thomas's departure?

The problem with adding a still raw prospect like Mahinmini is that you can no longer send him to Tulsa for game experience, so you have to carve out minutes for him in the rotation. I just don't think there is room for an outside player this raw and I'm not sure you can prove he's a better prospect than Mullens.

Competition:
Kristic-I'm putting him here because he basically confessed after his exit interview that he would probably enter next season as the back up center.

Collison-Veteran, does the little things, coaches gush about what he brings to the team.

Mullens-Like Mahnimini he's a measurable"s guy. Prototypical size, athletic ability, good hands and feet, no injury history.

I'm o.k. with adding another prospect/project to the mix in Thomas's vacated spot. You can use Tulsa, the cost is low and there are enough interesting prospects that maybe you get lucky and find a keeper.

They need a guy to bring in here who can give min. I don't care if he can play in Tulsa. The thunder are a 50 Win Team you can throw a 7' footer out there w/ Durant and see how he does!

Mahinmi is listed at 6'-10", and he's never been able to give minutes for the Spurs a team that won the same number of games as the Thunder last season.

I don't disagree with your point, just your targeted solution.

Murphy is interesting. Foster is a nice player as well. What's the price though. I don't think the Thunder will pay the price for thoes guys. Plus they make about 15 million combined
