Point Guard
The Thunder need to address theitr 3rd Point Guard. I know this is not the most important position on the team. But, a team is only as good as their weakest link. Right now I do not see a Weaver making this team just becasue how the team is built.
Thoughts on Guys who would fit?
Kevin Ollie http://www.uconnhuskies.com/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/070210aaa.html
Earl Boykins
Eddie House
Others:
Carlos Arroyo
Acie Law
Royal Ivey [SIGNED]
Mustafa Shakur (I dont think he is a Point Guard)
Jamaal Tinsley
Marcus Williams
Jannero Pargo
Mardy Collins

Re: Point Guard
The team could choose not to carry a 3rd point guard this year. If injuries force you to rely on your third point guard you usually add a journeyman point guard like Mike Wilks or the other names on your list anyway.
If the team does carry a third point guard, I think Weaver and Mustafa are the most likely candidates. Neither is a pure point guard, but they do offer good size and versatility, which Presti seems to value more from the position.
Shakur paid his dues in Tulsa last year and played well in summer league, why not give him a shot?
Weaver ran the offense during his time in Tulsa last season and has improved his range over the last 2 years.
What about how the team is built makes Weaver a poor candidate in your mind?

He's not a good PG. If we're willing to use Weaver at PG might as well skip him and use Harden there if we need to.

Re: Point Guard
Well hopefully Harden is in the mix for the starting job at SG. I suppose in a worst case scenario you could ask him to play some point guard, but at that point I'm assuming the wheels on the season have come off.
How many 3rd string point guards are good point guards? If they were, they wouldn't be 3rd string point guards.
Part of developing Westbrook and Maynor is you give them support and opportunity. It's why Presti didn't look to draft or sign a point guard this offseason.

Re: Point Guard
Lots of 3rd string PG's are okay. Kevin Ollie knows how to play PG. He stinks, but he can bring the ball up, not turn it over, and keep things moving to some degree. I'd like another veteran in that mold if we get a 3rd PG.

Re: Point Guard
I think Ollie was on the roster last season to be a mentor to Westbrook not for his ability to play at this stage of his career. I believe Westbrook is past needing a player mentor and so Ollie is no longer needed. Ollie deserves credit for extending his career way beyond his skill level, but it's time to give that salary slot to someone younger and more versatile.
If the 3rd point guard is nothing more than insurance and a practice player then I think Weaver or Shakur are very good options.

Re: Point Guard
If Westbrook or Maynor go down this season it will be horriable if we do not have a guy on the team who can bring the ball up the court w/o turning it over.
Anyone who watched the 66ers last season... is there a guy down there who is a decent point?

Re: Point Guard
Ya I agree with above post Harden can play 3 PG when necessary he has some developing PG skills, no need to sign another PG.

I think Harden and Weaver are capable of being that 3rd PG if Maynor or Westbrook have to sit for a few games.

We can have weaver at the one and give the ball handling duty to harden.

Re: Point Guard
Looks like you got Royal Ivey.
Seems like a good fit, good on the ball defender with a decent 3.
